Ty Pennington's ADHD Store: Out of Business?

012808_ty.jpg

He won us over when the store opened just last september, but where has Ty's store gone?

It's been closed up for a while. My mom and I discovered it was no longer around when I attempted to take her there in November. We have our theories. Perhaps it wasn't cool with Sears for Ty to have is name on other brands? Perhaps he had some second thoughts? We're just disappointed because he carried some really great stuff. The website is silent, and when googled, we haven't found answers. Does anyone know what happened?

Interesting. He was sued by his former A*D*H*D partner in September; that might have something to do with it.

I made the trip to Venice just a few week ago and had no idea the place was OOB.

What people just don't get; HIGH END PRODUCTS in a casual setting; yes, we all think it's quirky and cute and very well meant... sometimes even very well executed, but it never works (unless it's an antique's shop, anything goes there). I highly doubt it would work in any other setting. People don't just shop because the need something, they go for the experience and variety. You don't go shopping for high end products at the corner store (such as Ty's) or the mall (unless there's a neiman marcus in there). Otherwise, the all-mighty catalog would make stores obsolete. Either way, any legal problems Ty got wouldn't have been an issue for the store if they were making enough income, they would've just overlooked it and moved on.

I don't agree with Djluckyonline. I think people in LA, especially Venice, do buy high end in a casual atmo. It's super nuveau riche, which we have alot of. Buy your $300 slink and linen T shirt at a little cute hole in the wall, that kinda thing. Or even your one of a kind dining set.

Danger Man and I went to an art exhibit at that house before it was Ty's store, and we were both struck by the bad feeling we got in wandering around the place.

Maybe it's haunted. ;)

this store is in a stretch of super expensive and high-end boutiques. there's no reason it wouldn't have worked. so who knows what is going on here.

It's simple as that.....the name of this game is business! How are you able to afford and make money in a retail space on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA that costs around $10/sq ft ($10,000 for a 1,000 sq ft showroom)? How much furniture can you place in a 1,000sq ft in a way that looks beautiful, charming and appealing to the consumer.....especially on Ty's case, where he displayed even beds in a such small space?!
Abbot Kinney is beautiful, very charming and great vibe, however, the blvd is not busy enough for the prices that landlords are asking.......most of them making money speculating the real state market (reads, rent price too!).....not fair for the hard worker's business owners!
That's one of the reasons why every year has so many different shops there....even a TV celebrity wasn't able to scape from this reality!
