Question to Turquoise, Alec, and any other Angelenos who have worked with drapery installers... I'm think about having a 2-section, L-shaped drapery rod system installed along the roof of my covered patio. Since this is an exterior surface, it is most likely solid concrete. Can anyone recommend a local installer who can do this kind of a job? [My intention is to hang some inexpensive gauzy white (IKEA) drapery panels that can be drawn to create a cabana-like feel for the covered portion of my patio.] Thanks!

Is there a rule of thumb for lampshade vs. base size?

i think i read somewhere once that the height of the lampshade should be approximately the same height or shorter of the base height, and something like the diameter of the shade should be equal to the height of the base... or something like that...

SF and Chicago AT are up and running. I'll never get any work done, now.

Thanks, Turquoise! I went in a completely different direction in the patio this weekend and warmed it up considerably by introducing a lot of deep reds and golds to balance out all the cool violet tones (new curtain panels and a few new pillows--all made from sari fabric). Plus, I switched out the plants; I now have a 5-foot Dracena in one corner and a 6-foot leafy Hawaiian palm the other (both in ceramic containers); and have only kept one of the succulents (the aenioum) which didn't like the climate and light conditions of my patio. Also, got 2 leather poufs (from Mosaik on Beverly) to add more outdoor seating. The colors are definitely much bolder; and there's a whole lot of it going on... So, I'll have to live with these changes for a minute before considering the addition of curtains to surround the daybed! But I do appreciate the referral! E.
