Anyone in SF want a Crate & Barrel Petrie sofa (white) for only 800 bucks?? Why is my house so small? Curses!

Oh God will someone make this apartment contest stop?? How many tears must flow as these unfortunate subjects are voted off the island in favor of those who can afford $4k/month loft apartments filled with high end furniture and design?

Please end it...if nothing else, do it for the kids!

I want that sofa! It looks like a display sofa. It would fit in my apt. if only it was in NYC. So neither one of us get to buy it, aquarabbit.

That is a gorgeous sofa! I am just not in the market for it! I would love it right now, but seeing as how I'm in Denver, it would probably cost quite a bit to even get it here.

I got a Hold Everything catalog (Summer Savings!)in the mail today. I thought they were going out of business. Maybe it's just going out of business on the east coast. Any word from the left coast?

Is it "Petrie" after Rob and Laura? It's great!

Okay - here's a DIY fix it question.

Background. I removed a phone outlet box from this cute niche I have in my hallway. The box was unsightly and unused. Last night, my dad called me on my cell and said my phone line had been dead for 2-days. Ooops - I think I unwired myself.

Sooo...I've googled phone wiring instructions to figure out the wire pairings. It seems straightforward based on the directions but I'm still NOT getting a dial tone. Any references for me to look at? I do NOT want to pay somebody to fix this....

I think they're slowly getting the Chicago and San Francisco sites ready for the public, but neither are fully available yet....

Shouldn't there be a post about the AT book log?

Good Morning AT community- I figure I'll jump in this morning with a question

I have this dilemma that I hope to receive some input-

The previous owner put up floor to ceiling mirrors along one wall to make the apartment seem bigger. While I think it's a good technique, I think it's just too much of a good thing. The mirrors cover a space of about 10' (height) x15' (wide). When I first moved in, I was pretty sure I want to remove them (save some if i could for reuse in other parts of the apartment) and put in built in shelves in their place.

then this morning, I saw the LA AT site's positing about the Chamberlain Hotel- and its mirrored lobby.

So now I am thinking- should I flip my set up and have the couch right against the mirrored wall and have built in shelves on the opposite wall? The space is not wide, about 10 feet wide.

thanks for all your inputs in advance.

Rita - some thoughts...

I had a neighbor that had floor to ceiling walls in the dining room part of an L-shaped apartment. She was also a bit of a clutter bug. I felt like the mirrors DOUBLED the amount of visual clutter in her space.

While the lobby of the hotel is pretty cool looking, I personally would not find that space restive...and hotel lobbies aren't designed for people to spend lots of time in...

Still think you should use the mirrors if you can. Maybe if you have a entry hallway - it could line that floor to ceiling.

Or, depending on the architectural elements of your space and the width of the individual mirrors, you could install the mirrors lengthwise, abutting the ceiling around the circumference of a room (or hallway). And finish the bottom (and top) edge with molding. This might help reflect more light in the room with neat visual effect, but not contribute to visual chaos...

It could be your mirrored fun house...

oops - in my first para, I meant floor to ceiling MIRRORS (not walls, although those were there, too).

Heh.

Rita, I'd go the other way and take the mirrors down. Mirrors seem to do more to expand space and light when they're a little more... subtle. But I hate catching glimpses of myself as I'm doing things, so that's my prejudice.

Hey, Rita -- I would keep those mirrors. Hang interesting ethnic or colored sheers and enjoy the shimmer of light behind, suggesting a window beyond.

Portland folks...
Studio G11 is having a floor sample sale. It's still NOT cheap but it might be worth checking out.

Rita, I posted this for Christine on the NY site, but it might be interesting for you too:
http://tinyurl.com/ovuh6

It's not apparent in the first top picture in the orange room, but continue into the following pages with the blue and the camel room. The entire wall on the left in the top picture is mirrored.

It just looked to me like one huge room, and I've looked at those pictures several times over the past couple years.

I'd have no problems at all with mirrored walls if the room looked like any one of those pictures!
