To me, it has a 60's feel - kind of pop/op artish. But I have no idea where you would get something like this. Why not try asking the HGTV show where they got it from?

Would you like to see this in L.A.? The city of Sao Paulo has banned all outdoor advertising including billboards, posters, flyers, etc. I kind of like the idea, as I sometimes feel my senses are being assaulted with the proliferation of advertising around me - though this may be a bit too restrictive. http://www.businessweek.com/innovate/content/jun2007/id20070618_505580.htm?chan=top news_top news index_innovation %2Bamp%3B design

I'm in the process of decorating our small home office and I am in desparate need to find a smallish size desk. I love the desk in front of the pegboard in the following picture but I can't seem to find anything like it. Any ideas about where to find something similar?
MrGaryLee: We just got our last batch of submissions for the ATLA position late last night, so we're going to comb through them and choose 3 final candidates over the weekend. Keep an eye out next week for an announcement.

a couple weeks ago there was a "hot or not" post about an expandable round table (see the link below) in the ny apartmenttherapy site. i love the idea of the table, just not the design or the price. it seems a bit expensive for the material and look. anyone out there know a good place in la to find a round table that seats 4 -6 people when regular and 12 people when expanded? i live in los angeles so local places are preferred, but definitely not necessary. a table like this would suit my new dining room so well i'd be willing to get the perfect table from anywhere!

melanie,
you could also -- email the picture to yourself, crop it & resize it or otherwise play with it in photoshop or microsoft picture editor or other imaging software & then when the image is to your liking, contact a good photography printing place (here in la i like icon on wilshire) and they can blow it up to any size you like. i just did this with an image i love and had it blown up to poster size (30x40) and it was quite inexpensive.

Abby,
thanks, but I don't think there's any way in the world anyone could take a thumbnail-sized 72dpi picture and have it blown up even a few inches! I'm pretty sure it's not possible from a source image that small, though I do wish it was!
Beachbungalow - I'm seriously considering it! It's pretty simple, but if it was something that was in mass-production or easy to get I'd want the original. Looks like my dining table is about to get subjected to another month-long project :)
To anyone else who might have been wondering, Jamie (the owner of the bungalow) got back to me:

Hi Melanie,
I love that piece too. Itâs by an artist whoâs last name is Letterman. I donât know who he is but Iâm quite sure the piece is from the 70âs, American and oil (I think). We bought it from a shop on Abbot Kinney in Venice called French 50âs, 60âs a few years ago.
Once in a while I see some of the same artistâs work and the owner of the shop Michelle maybe comes across his work as well. You could ask her 310-838-0102.
Best,
Jamie

What a sweetie, that was so fast! I did some searching and I couldn't find any Lettermans for sale on eBay or any of the usual suspects, though I did find lots of other people trying to figure out where theirs came from and who they guy (lady) was. I think I may have just stepped into a mystery!
Thanks everyone who helped out!

goodnightdean,
Someone on another thread suggested the rubber mats used in gyms for another renter's bathroom. Apparently, you can just cut it to size and lay it down. Those mats may not be matte, but they aren't very shiny and they do come in black, and as a plus they are reversible (good for a rental).

perhaps you can ask jamie if you can buy a photo of the image from her, scan that in and then manipulate it / blow it up?

I'm looking for a (queen size) bed with built-in storage underneath, that doesn't necessarily just rely on drawers as the answer since one side of our bed is pushed against the wall. Does such a thing exist in this town? I'm trying to find something with a fairly small footprint, so the hollowed out headboard isn't the most optimal answer for the room unfortunately.

I recently bought these angel wingback chairs (btw, I'm selling one if anyone is interested) and am deciding to upholster one. Know any great upholstery stores in LA? With a comfortable price? I'd love to wrap this chair in a tuxedo white canvas.

Layke - I have had good luck with Ye Olde Upholstery Shoppe on Lincoln Blvd in Santa Monica, just south of Pico. I've used them several times over the years and have always been pleased. It is family run, and the father, who does the actual upholstering, is very skilled. They have been in business many years. The cost was not ultra cheap - but seemed reasonable for the quality.

I need some help - I've fallen in love with a piece of art featured here and I don't even know where to start looking for it, or something like it. Can anyone at least tell me the era and style? It's the huge piece on the right side of the image here:

Thanks in advance!

hi *intheory -
Here's one that might work from the CB2 website:
http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=116&f=1079
There's another one at Ikea:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00105097
Don't know if those are close enough to what you're looking for, but they both seem affordable!
