Looking for a window solution to bathroom blinds/shades that would allow some privacy at the bottom and light at the
top, but be able to open all the way at times. The look of the bathroom is Asian...and I can't stand those accordian cellular shades. Any other options out there?
Thanks,
Aline

Option 1: Roman shades with "top-down/bottom-up" feature.
Option 2: Apply a vinyl film that mimics the look of frosted glass directly on the windowpane(s) . Offers privacy but allows light.

I'm installing off-white subway tiles in my kitchen. The house was built in 1892 so I want them to look a bit old and not brand new. My cabinets are maple, appliances are stainless, and I have a natural (with slightly pinkish tone) concrete countertops that have gotten a bit darker with age. What color grout would you suggest using in the grout? THank you so much for your advice!

Don't know if this has already been posted, but I stopped by Show (on Vermont) today, and everything in the store is 20% off.

Taracakes - I've watched the show since the beginning, but have to say that I've never noticed the artwork. I saw your post on the other site - I think you said that the Production people (or someone) didn't know about it? The only thing I can think of is to watch the credits and see if there's a Set Designer or Location (or something similar) listed, then try to contact them - maybe abc.com.

Good luck.

Any suggestions for design must-sees in San Diego?

In honor of the start of Monsoon Season (hint: it's not a dry heat), I am determined that as soon as work is done this Friday, we're driving west until we feel the cool ocean breeze on our faces and spending the weekend where it's not 111 degrees with 90% humidity.

hello: i need to find a not-too-modern faucet for an ikea sink i have my eye on: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20033354.
i really don't like the ikea faucet that goes with it - ugh. the sink has a retro feel that would allow it to blend in gracefully with my bathroom (1950s look? in a 1930-ish apartment), which currently has a charming but leaky console-mounted sink that apparently cannot be easily fixed. the ikea sink is shaped similarly, so I am hoping I can find a faucet compatible with the three-hole setup on this sink. can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm in love with a room I saw on Domino Magazine's website:

http://www.dominomag.com/images/galleries/rooms/gasl08_warmmodern.jpg

I was wondering if anyone knew where the coffee table is from? And the wall shelving? I know I've seen both around, but I've been digging all over the internet and haven't been able to find anything!!

Juli -- I'll put those on the list for next time! San Diego is likely to be an annual destination, thanks to those cooling ocean breezes.

cloverparade--if no one in here knows where to find the things you're looking for, try the forums on the domino site or you can even email them the question (I got a response within a couple of days). Good Luck!

Aline - re: your bathroom window. I have a large bay window in my living room that gets full sun all day and in order to be able to partially shut off the sun in places yet have other parts of the window clear I opted for custom built wooden American Shutters (ironic considering I'm in a Victorian cottage on the outskirts of London)! The shutters are in separate sections top and bottom which fold open flat independently of each other with slats that also open independently. It means I can block off the sun in one area but, if I wish, have all the other shutters open - there are lots of permutations. It's the same principle for privacy in a bathroom window really - I'd thoroughly recommend them and would install them if I moved (although probably in a darker wood next time).

I have a 50's pole lamp and a 30's metal dinette that I'm cleaning up and repainting. There are a few small pieces of each that need re-plating: part of the lamp needs its brass plating redone, and the (removable) trim of the dinette is rusted and pitted past the point that I can fix it (and is the only part of the set that is in such shape). It needs to be polished or chromed or otherwise made to shine again.

But my question is: does anyone have a place they'd recommend for these replating/polishing services? I'm in Burbank, and my concerns are that 1) my items are so small and few, I'm not sure if it'd be worth it for a place to do just them (and I'm a little intimidated even to inquire), and 2) no place seems to be open on weekends, and the places I've looked at are too far away for me to run over to them on my lunch break or something. So if anyone has a place they'd really recommend or some experience to share, I'd appreciate it. :)

Anyone ever heard of the furniture maker "Sommer, Montgomery & Peterson" ? I googled it, but found nothing. It's a stamp on the back of a dresser I am selling. (Not the ones I just bought for anyone who saw or made suggestions on the furniture I was buying yesterday). Thanks for any info!

Taracakes,

The set decorator for this series is Karen Bruck. Her website is:

http://www.karenbruck.com/index.html

She doesn't include her e-mail address on it, but her phone number is there. I think she might be your best bet. The art itself looks a bit Haida to me....

Taracakes,

The style of art is called Tlingit art (also Haida) and it's pretty native to the Northwest where the show is based. There are a few galleries in Vancouver and Seattle that sell prints I believe. I saw the some of the same prints that are used on the show at www.coastalpeoples.com, but the site appears to be down right now.

Hope that helps!

Hello, I am looking for a set of original movie theater chairs from the 20's up to the 40's.
Does anybody know of any old theater that is closed (or in the process of closing) that I could contact to see if I could buy the chairs from?
I tried a few in downtown LA, but I just can't figure out how to get in touch with them...
Thanks for any ideas!
