Definitely hit up Michael Levine in LA's fabric district, and then enjoy a little of LA's kooky fun past at nearby Clifton's Cafeteria (mmm...Jello!).

I have a question--I just bought a condo with giant, 25 foot high balcony windows. Any idea where I should go for 25 foot curtains? My friend suggested just going to the fabric district and buying some curtain fabric and sewing my own, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a good source for long curtains on the cheap?

cloverparade - do you really need to cover the part of the window that is 25 feet up? Certainly not for privacy, but maybe for light. I ask because you are going to have a heck of a time making curtains and also cleaning them -- so I would suggest mounting the curtain rod lower, halfway or even 1/3 of the way down if it is practical and leaving the top part exposed (depending on the attractiveness of the windows, also).

Clover - I went the fabric district and got fabric for my 11 foot ceilings. It was WAY cheaper than anything you'll ever find. Combine that savings with someone who can sew the curtains for you and they will be cheaper than getting the entire thing custom made. I've never even seen pre-made drapery that long so I think that's the way to go.

Robyn, yes, I really do want floor to ceiling curtains...it would look really unfinished and awkward if i just draped them from halfway, so I really do need the long curtains. They're gorgeous windows, but I really do want them covered.
Laura, who did you have sew the curtains for you? Any recommendations on that?

Clover - sorry I just bought the fabric for my room divider curtains so I didn't need to have them sewn. I just used that iron on seam tape to finish the edges and drapery clips and rings to hang them.

Clover, You can look for someone who does custom sewing, some of these people will make simple panel curtains - they type you put a rod through a pocket or clip rings to. Real drapes with pleats and linings are more complicated and you may need to approach someone with experience in that area. Ask around, ask when you visit the fabric district they may be able to direct you. Good luck,

Question: How does one go about hanging an Eames Leg Splint. I'd like to hang it vertically with indentation (the side your leg goes in) facing the wall and the portion where your foot would go at the top.
Anybody?

Help? I just purchased a slipcovered sofa from 'sofa u love,' in a natural colored cotton canvas. Now, I'm wishing I got it in white. Actually I'd prefer an off white. The natural color is a little dark and yellow hued for me. Do you think I can bleach the slipcovers to get them a little lighter? Thanks!
