anyone know of how to buy a mattress without being taken to the cleaners? I need a new one and i've tried a few times to go out and talk to those people but they're as useful as a used car salesman. I don't care if the pieces match either.
there has to be a place to get a decent mattress for 5-600$ 1200$ for a mattress seems insane! looking LB/OC area

I got my memory-foam mattress 2 years ago from the home shopping channel. it came in a 75"x18"x18" box by UPS delivery. I bought it after doing much research on the net, because it has a removable, dry-cleanable cover (dust mites.. eeeww) and it was "4 easy payments" and free shipping. The full size was under $900 including taxes, etc. Has a 20yr. warranty, and could be used with an existing box-spring or on a platform. It sleeps better than the $1200 "mis-match" set it replaced, and it only weighs 55lbs.

Help! I bought a queen-size bed frame from Crate and Barrel and didn't want to wait for home shipping. It'll be at the store today for me to pick up and I have no idea how i'm going to get it home. Any suggestions? As always, points will be granted for creativity.

Alyce. If you don't have a friend with a truck, then Craig's List is a good route to go for quick, relatively inexpensive ground transport.

That seems like a great solution, but how do I keep a stranger from driving off with my new bed? I'm considering an hourly rental somewhere. Why do I have to be so impatient! C&B will deliver and assemble for $60- but I can't wait.

If C&B will deliver AND assemble for that price, I would wait and go with them. They'll most likely haul away the packaging, too. (CL delivery guys in LA are in the $50 range.)
