Earth Friendly Moving

041907earthfriend2.jpgGood Move. Moving is never an easy task, but there's one company that's trying to make it a little easier, at least in terms of its effect on the environment. Earth Friendly Moving is a zero-waste packing and moving service, based on the concept of reusable moving totes(that rent for $1 a week), giving alternatives to cardboard boxes, petroleum-based bubble wrap, styrofoam, and other environmentally destructive packing and moving supplies. They started last year in Orange County, and currently also service Long Beach, expanding to the rest of Southern California in 2007, and ultimately a national expansion as well.

Spencer Brown, the founder and President, says that "America prides itself on its ingenuity- but despite tremendous technological advnaces, we haven't changed the way we move from home to home in more than 200 years... We still use the same disposable, environmentally disastrous packing materials and methods we did in the 1700s."

The basis of the Earth Friendly Moving system is the RecoPack (which stands for REcycled ECOlogical PACking Solution), which is a series of lightweight, stackable containers, which are designed and manufactured from hard to recycle plastic waste, like detergent bottles and oil bottles. For every 100 RecoPack containers rented, Brown says he eliminates 256 pounds of trash destined for the country's landfills. They also offer recycled post-consumer packing paper, corn-based packing tape, even a RecoCube, which is a biodegradable loose-fill cube made from paper sludge, that can be used as fertilizer after the move.

If you are planning a move in the near future, consider contacting Earth Friendly Moving. Find out all the information here at their website.

That is really fantastic; thanks for the link! One thing though, Long Beach is part of LA County and not its own [it should be, but that is a different story].

Cheers!
