Since Scott is way taller than Betty, his shoes are on top stored in clear containers with Betty's shoes taking up the middle and bottom shelves. Each individual's shoes are stacked with consideration to frequency of use (less worn shoes go on the bottom). Betty also mentions that the shoes she wears daily don't get a box. Because she knows the probability of returning them to their container is slim, they are lined up on their own shelf for easy access. And even though most of us don't have an entire closet to devote to shoe storage, we love the tools the couple puts to use. Clear containers that stack not only let you see what's stored inside, they save your shoes from the wear and tear of living in a pile on the floor.

I think I hate Betty and Scott.
I'm sure the other closets in the home look like this too.

you shouldn't store your shoes in plastic. If you are going to then at least drill holes in the plastic.

I never felt inclined to put my shoes in tupperware boxes. Sure it looks a little nicer, but shoes come with boxes that are FREE! Besides, they are behind a shut closet door 99% of the time.

Rather than all those boxes, I'd have simply purchased a dozen or so additional shelf brackets and had plywood cut to fit...
...so much wasted space in there.

Ikea do these very clever shoeboxes that have a clear panel that opens at the front, so you don't have to take a box out of the stack to open it.

I LOVE those (Komplement?) Ikea boxes. I used the tupperware style ones for a while but they lead to SEVERAL closet shoe collapses. The Ikea ones with the little plastic door make a world of difference.

I have two Billy (Ikea) bookcases with doors for my shoes. They have the perfect depth. Bought an additional shelf each and they both can store up to thirty two pairs of shoes.

I'd rather have a bunch of shelves, possibly with cubbies. Wtih boxes stacked in front of boxes, there's no way to even remember what you own. If you're going to wear the same five pairs of shoes over and over again, why own the rest?

yes why not more shelves rather than the boxes?

My brother bought a house a few years ago. Before the closing, I went with him to walk around in it (with the permission of the owners). They had an entire shoe ROOM... seriously, the room was filled with racks and racks of shoes: expensive high heels, boots, sneakers, you name it. It became my brother and sister-in-law's bedroom!

This is a terrible "shoe closet" to feature. I design custom closets for a living, but I don't think anyone needs to be a professional to notice all the wasted space in this closet. More shelves and less boxes would be not only a better use of space, but also allows the shoes to be more visible and accessible. Though the boxes are clear, a photo on the end of each displaying the contents would be helpful.

Okay, first of all, rid of some shoes unless these are for more than four people.
Then, why in the hell aren't you storing the shoes in their original boxes they came in? They are FREE and usually merely cardboard, so the shoes do get air unlike in plastic.
