'Honey, I'm Home' Magnetic Key Holder

011409HoneyImHome1.jpgLooking a whole like like the monolith from 2001, Arik Levy's 'Honey, I'm Home' magnetic key holder is a wall mountable insurance for those of us who have a knack for losing their keys...in their own home. But at $40 a pop, we're thinking a more affordable DIY version using some strong neodymium magnets might be a more affordable option (glue/mount a large neodymium magnet behind a square sheet of wood to wall mount similar to this; just note that these magnets are super strong and can be dangerous to handle without precautionary measure)...

This wouldn't be so hot the ever present flashdrive key chains, correct?

i have a hook next to my front door that serves the same purpose. every day when i come home i hang my keys up on the hook ... without fail.

it's a great habit - no more looking for keys in pockets, purses, etc ...

I use a magnetic tool dish on the fridge. It looks like a steel saucer. I think it was $6 or so, available at most any hardware stores. I was one of those people always searching for their keys.

I love neodymium magnets! Those little bastards are HARDCORE. You could get a 10g magnet, and it'd hold 160kg of weight. You could stick a rope on it and use it as a swing!

That said, I personally wouldn't use a magnetic key holder. I tend to keep them with my phone and wallet, and yeah, would rather not bring magnetised objects near them.
