If you're looking for more color than the plain white that Benita mentioned, these holders can add just the right amount of color and make organizing a bit more fun. Buy them from Velocity Art and Design for $16 a piece.
These would make my magazines look quite beautiful!

those would probably take about 15 minutes to make with a cereal box & a roll of contact paper.
ps jen squires: lose the self-serving part of your comment and you'll look a lot more hip.

Cereal boxes are flimsy and cheap, these are a very heavy weight cardboard. Also, have you seen the contact paper choices out there? Your not going to get cute thomaspaul patterns in nice colors. Come on people, let's not be so cheap. When did Apartment Therapy turn into the DIY channel?

I have looked into magazine files and nice ones can be pretty expensive unless you just don't have that many magazines. I found an instructable that just looked way tedious. I have a lot of cardboard I could use, and I was going to cover with paper from the Paper Source, but I have... expensive taste.
This is one of those things I'm tempted to just shortcut and buy at an office supply cheap, ready-made, I think they're called banker's files, and cover them with a solid paper from an art supply store, not worry about patterns.
I have all that cardboard though. I'm doomed because this is a project I'm never going to get around to doing if I Do It Myself, but prices on these nice ones ready-made are just ridiculous. Cereal boxes are floppy and flimsy crap for serious magazine storage, and contact paper is cheesy. Sorry, Lois. Nice DIY looks luxe, it's something you can have some pride in, not like you are in kindegarten making an erstwhile cubby for your dittos.
