Where To: Keep Sheets
Besides the Obvious

101608-sheets01.jpgBethZ's post earlier today, which rounded up alternative storage places for towels, got us thinking about where we store sheets. Although we have a linen closet, given the limited storage space in our apartment, we don't have the luxury of giving up a whole closet just for sheets and towels. So, our towels are hung from pegs on the back of our bathroom door while our sheets...

Our sheets are stored between the mattress and the box spring. Granted, we only have four sets (two for our bed and one set for each of our couches in case we have overnight guests) but it means that they're exactly where we need them, they don't take up valuable real estate in the closet and they stay clean and flat. If you're at a loss for where to store your bed linens, try it.

Do you have a seemingly odd place you store stuff? Please share in the comments!

I guess I have a much heavier mattress, because there's no way I could lift it enough to store sheets without major hassle. I keep my sheets in a round drum table (end table with doors) that belong to my granny. It holds four sets, and some other sundry throws. I hope to have it refinished some day.

I fold all my sheets and pillow cases. Then I put them in the 2nd pillow case. After that I put them under my bed.

I lived in Mexico for a summer and had to store all linens, towels and books into these tall, drum style, wicker baskets with lids to keep the centipedes and scorpions out. Later used them again in an apartment that had very little storage they keep things from mildewing as well.

I know a few people that use armoires and one friend uses a vintage refrigerator painted bright green converted into linen storage.

i have a murphy, so i can't store anything under it. i use a vintage lane hope chest. it fits several sheet sets, out of season blankets, & towels. think outside of normal use. if you aren't the cocktail type, try a nice bar. they tend to be thin & have shelves w/ doors that close.

Well, since I don't have a boxspring - this wouldnt' work so swell...
...and I'd hate to be my sister trying this with her kids when she needs to change the sheets in the middle of the night (for obvious reasons)

We keep sheets folded inside the matching pillowcase and place it in the bottom drawer of the dresser in the bedroom where the bed it's intended for lives.

I have a quirky system, but it works. On laundry day, the first thing I do is strip the bed, then go get my clean sheets out of the dryer. Then I do all my laundry, and wash the sheets last. They go into the dryer ... and stay there until the following week :-).

When I do decide to fold them because I have mid-week laundry to do, or because I was feeling less lazy, I keep them in a basket on a shelf in the laundry room. I'm lucky to have both my own dryer and a laundry room...

When I didn't have such luxury, I kept them folded in a drawer with my PJs and sweats.

I have the IKEA Mandal bed with storage drawers: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80121338 . Since we have no utility/broom closet, that stuff goes in the linen closet. And the sheets are in one of the bed's drawers.

i think it was domino that recently suggested using nice boxes. they used an expensive example of cloth cardboard. i thought ikea's strikt line would do very nicely.

Like marie, I have a vintage Lane hope chest, painted Chinese red with a tapestry top and lined with cedar inside. It resides at the foot of our bed and holds all our linens.

I use the chest in my entryway for linen storage. It's got deep drawers & originally came off the street back when I had a vehicle large enough to transport such things home. I put it into service when I had to transform my linen closet into a coat closet.
