Gallery Fire Pit

redenvelope_grill.jpgWarm evenings with lingering sunshine... a summertime blessing best taken advantage of by moving your cooking and dining outdoors. And although I swear by the American icon Weber grill for my outdoor cooking needs, it doesn’t mean I’m not a bit envious of this contemporary sleek spun iron and stainless steel gallery fire pit that doubles as a grill. Available from RedEnvelope for $250.

This is fabulous! I love the design. Too bad NYers aren't allowed to use such things on our balconies. Damn!

Speaking of NY'ers and fire pits, what are the rules/regulations about using one of these if you have an outdoor deck/exclusive roof access? Anyone know? I know a barbecue is ok, but what about one of these?

If a bbq is allowed then pits are allowed. Just like the bbq, follow the precautions and use in an area where there is no chance of it igniting anything.

I purchased this firepit. While sexy and big, there were a few caveats:

1) Construction isn't top notch - the holes in the pit did not line up with the legs, so I had to use a drill to realign. Not particularly fun.

2) Rusts - I left this out in the rain, as I imagine most people do with firepits, and even unused, the pit and the cover started rusting. I scraped off the rust with a wire brush and repainted with a high heat spraypaint made for grills. Looks great now, but still, be aware.
