Last week, when we blogged outdoor furniture for less, the photograph we found to illustrate our post reminded us of The Pallet Chair by Studiomama...
Nina Tolstrup a/k/a Studiomama, a designer based in London who's come up with a number of AT favorites, designed the Pallet Chair in 2006 to answer a design challenge to create a project based on a limited budget using materials found within a limited geographic area. Fashioned from inexpensive furniture pallets that are usually tossed, we think it's the perfect outdoor piece. Brighten it up with paint, stain or an outdoor cushion (click here for instructions on making your own box pillow). Click here to purchase Instructions from Studiomama.
All I can think about is the amount of splinters one would get sitting on that chair.

Anyone in the DC area can get some pallets for $1.00 at Community Forklift, and not worry about be harassed for taking them from behind stores. This is a cool place to go checkout anyways. Lots of used junk/treasures for bargain prices.

This is the type of creativity and resourcefulness that excites me.
Has anyone ordered any of the plans before? Are they easy to follow?

It looks pretty easy to do without plans.

HMM... splinters, yes.

I like this!
Maybe it's my carpentry experience (as a hobbyist only, not as a pro) -- but I think the photo is pretty self-explanatory and makes ordering the plans a bit redundant.
As for splinters, nothing some sanding can't take care of ;)

Also...
I would brace the back a bit better and use multiple fasteners, so if a heavy person leans back hard, that fragile joint (where the back meets the seat) will not fail.

Sorry, I don't mean to hog this thread, but it occurred to me that a discarded large wooden wire-spool might be the perfect table to compliment this chair, conceptually and aesthetically.

most wooden pallets are treated with formaldehyde. its nice to recycle, but i wouldn't want to sit on that. a simple splinter could cause a serious infection.
