Perhaps we've lived in Los Angeles for too long but when we hear that Mercury's in retrograde we sit up and take notice. An event that happens three or four times a year, it can be three weeks of frustration or productivity, depending on your attitude...
A good time for reevaluating, reexamining or redoing things, it's a great time for cleaning out closets and finishing projects that you never quite got around to. It's also a time when things mysteriously turn up: a favorite pen you thought you'd never see again was hidden in the cushions of your couch, your friend finally returns your pie plate, that rug you've had your eye on suddenly goes on sale. And, the timing couldn't be more perfect. These weeks before we suddenly find ourselves at the starting line for the holiday season are a great time to get stuff done that you may otherwise not get around to until after January 2nd.
Do you have any unfinished projects in your home that you'd like to finish?

Is that why I woke up this morning with an urge to purge? I am collecting boxes at work so I can clean out closets and box up stuff for a massive trip to Goodwill. I had no idea it had to do with the alignment of the planets. lol

Funny. An image of Carrie's closet directly below a banner ad for the DVD of Sex & the City!

I've always loved Carrie's closet color. And I've been feeling the need to purge excess clothing and unwanted items lately as well.

I have several projects that I need to finish. I did get rid of a lot of things from my closet and sold on Ebay.
I have like 3 sets of china courtesy of my mother and mother-in-law, but will never ever use them. I am on a mission to sell those and I also have a project of cleaning all the grout and then sealing on the floors of my home.

I just had my girlfriend over to help me clean out my clothes closet. We made 4 piles.
Fits & keep
Almost fits -- loose 5 lbs so ok to keep/store.
Doesn't fit -- need to loose more than 5 lbs so give it away
Give to Marnii -- it will fit her!
By taking each item out of my closet and examining it for fit, I discovered new ensembles I hadn't considered before. So I got rid of a bunch of clothes and came way with a more outfits!

I took part of a Sunday afternoon and tackled my 3 undergarment drawers, Bras, socks and panties. They are small and were overflowing. I purged and organized (I even got some small boxes to fit inside to keep everything in tidy rows) and it makes all the difference. I purged all the ratty old undies I have had forever and bought a few 3 packs of new stuff at Target. When I get dressed I can finally see everything and it starts the day on the right foot. A small, quick effort makes a huge impact.
Soon I will get around to the other areas of my closet.

About an hour ago I finished putting a final coat on a table I've been working on!

I've spent the last two weeks going through every single thing in my apt. It has been a huge mess, but I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm still in the tunnel, though, and the challenge now is to see the project through, and not give up and shove everything that's left into a closet.
Sometimes it's ridiculous how complicated a tiny task can be. Chose to use the same pulls that are on my Ikea wardrobes on my non-Ikea chest. Needed longer screws. Home Depot employee insisted that pulls have a standard screw size: 8-32. Foolishly bought them without trying them in the store. Ikea pulls take a metric screw. Went to 3 hardware stores before I found metric screws.

The list...Finish painting an accent wall, figure out curtains vs. blinds vs. privacy decals in my living room(high traffic looking in) window the cats love to sit in, go through all my clothes since I lost weight and nothing fits(donate!), figure out if I want to add doors to my Billy bookcases to close off everything and make it look more organized, go through and shred 11 years worth of paperwork, figure out if I want to mount my tv on the wall, which means rearranging all the furniture, which means reorganizing where all the cables go throughout the apart...oh the list never ends.
Here's a question about the closet...is it best to organize the hanging clothes by color? Type? Style?
I just sit there and look at it all and sigh...too many projects, never enough time.
