AT:LA got an email a few weeks ago announcing a new temporary wallpaper, geared just for apartments, the paper from Paper Apartment is adhered to the wall with a special 3M material that is guaranteed not to ruin the wall. I was VERY curious to say the least. I invited them over to do an install [actually, they offered].
Company owners Derek and Jason from Paper Apartment asked me which color we would be using and after much dilemma, [I asked to bring 4 colors to see in the space] I chose the blue. Since each kit comes with a white paint pen to decorate as you see fit, my mind was full of crazy time-consuming ideas. I finally settled for a little graphic I saw on a curtain at Target.
After finding a template to use I set out to cover the "chair rail" height paper with this pattern. Of course it took much more time than I had figured and to the guy's dismay a number of paint pens, [we used 3 total for this project] they were great sports in dealing with my crazy design idea.
A couple of details and questions that came up over the afternoon:
I had assumed the entire paper was coated with the 3M material but it's not, the kit comes with a number of the 1/2" tabs to adhere the paper to the wall. I was a bit disappointed with this fact but probably because I had dreams about sticking this stuff everywhere.
You should be good at wrapping presents. Because the material is heavy paper, it creases and acts as if you are wrapping corners. You'll need to know how paper reacts in those situations.
I asked the guys what stops anyone from going out and buying colored butcher paper and their own tabs and doing this themselves? They put a lot of time and research into the color development with a printer so it will not fade in sunlight. They have also tested the pens on each of the colors for color fastness as well. They have tested even a Sharpie marker on it [with no bleed through] but they opted not to make that the official, approved pen for the paper.
Most people would hang this paper and work on the design on the wall...I have a textured wall so you should consider it when deciding what you'll be doing.
The guys suggested going side to side with the paper to get a perfect even line since we were stopping mid wall. Probably not the best idea in the end as it was difficult to manage and hang. Gravity is your friend.
My final verdict...
I think we should have hung it top to bottom and it would have prevented some buckling that was evident in the sunlight the next day.
This is a great product for the A.R. folks in the house who can get it adhered perfectly to the wall [or those who don't mind imperfection], dorm rooms and kids [who already write on the wall]. Paper away!

Hello Friends!
Derek and I came up with the product to solve a problem. We wanted color in our apartments, but were not allowed to paint! Our kits allow you to add vibrant, fade resistant color to your walls with no commitment. On top of that, you can draw on your walls, letting your creativity flow!
This is obviously a brand new product, and we are just beginning to realize the possibilities for it. Anyone with questions can feel free to email me, I would love to help in any way I can.
Don't forget, for the next month, you can get 10% off your order simply by entering the codes above!
Best Regards,
Jason Kuipers

This is an awesome concept, I would love to see them with a few patterns in the future.
This is perfect!!! I've been complaining on this site & to all my friends about how I can't paint my rental (I live in San Fran & work for a non-profit so homeownership is not an option). I love the new trendy wall decals but they still fall short on painfully bare white walls. I plan to purchase this product (thanks for the discount)!!!
This temporary wall paper product sounds great! It would be cool with some mod patterns like these cards...

If I could see more close ups in the gallery I would probably be more likely to buy it online!
I'm an apt dweller, too. Can't paint those "Indian White" walls. Worse than that, UGLY, old dark brown paneling in the front room - takes up half the wall space in that room. I HATE IT and often think about how to cover it. Of course, the landlord won't let me paint over it. Last night I had a concept - temporary wallpaper. You could put ANY Design on it -- take your apt from drab/ugly to ingenious and beautiful. What a concept. Is there any out there? And, it shouldn't cost a lot.
Hm, what happened to this company? Did it close down? There is no website that I can find.
