We met our neighbor Nancy Epstein recently after we dropped a note in her mail box asking if she and her husband might want to do a AT: LA home tour [coming soon]. We have long admired their home and working for AT gives us the freedom to leave admiring notes on doorsteps without feeling too much like a stalker.
In our correspondence, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Nancy owns a company called PerfectWallColor.com. She is a certified color consultant and came from a background in giftware and fashion design. She said she made the switch over a couple of years ago because she loved working with color and clients so much.
Nancy told me that many people would like to use an interior decorator but can’t afford to have the full service, so one of the services she offers is just simple color consulting. She develops the palette after an extensive interview process and maps out which walls will have which color etc. Once samples are chosen and test patches are made she goes back to finish the consult. She leaves the painting or contracting of the services to the homeowner so that DIY’ers can save some money or they can hire a professional as they see fit.
Nancy also offers one-day home makeovers for clients utilizing existing pieces and reorganization in the client’s home. Many times clients are overwhelmed or just wouldn’t think to move a particular element in a room to make the overall design work better. All of her services are available a la carte so that clients can work within their budgets.
If you’re nervous or design challenged about choosing colors, this is a great way to go. Sometimes, having a fresh pair of eyes looking at the walls you stare at day-in and day-out…is just what the design doctor ordered.
I love this idea and the pictures on her website are great (but wish there were more). However, the picture included with this story is painful to my eyes.
Maybe it's just me, but if that is supposed to make me want to hire her, I wouldn't. I only went to her website to see a) if this was an example of her work (didn't see it on there) and b). if this was a sample, just how bad could it get - morbid curiosity. I guess it worked though, because I did check out her site :)
Although she probably didn't personally design her website, the color combination chosen for it don't inspire confidence in her abilities.
must agree with kaiser; the colors on the website give me an unpleasant feeling. i love color and use it throughout my home, but i'm confused by her choices. curious to see her home tour...
I was mistaken about there not being more pictures. I found them today and while I love color (foyer-yellow and red, kitchen - tealish, bathroom - blue, other bath - green, bedroom creme and black), I guess this just isn't my taste. The home owners seem happy and that's all that matters.
