What Does Your Front Door's Color Say About You?

21709-door.jpgWe have a boring brown front door. As part of our DIY project for this month, we've been considering painting it. Our first thought was to paint it a bright yellow and we recently took a quiz on blogthings. Our results, after the jump...

Yellow: You are happily helpful. You are social, giving, and very community oriented. You like to feel like you're making a difference in the world. Friendly and optimistic, you are a very welcoming person. You like to bring people together. You are the perfect host.

Perfect! Now we're off to find the right shade of yellow. What does the color of your front door say about you? To take the blogthings quiz, click here and let us know your results in the comments.

We just painted our front doors of our 9-unit building a soft black color:

Your Door Says You Are Widely Influential

You are elegant, fashionable, and quite intimidating.
You wield a lot of power. And that's what scares people!
You are reserved and difficult to know.
Those who know you know that you are strong, consistent, and reliable.

Ouch. My second and third choices were green and orange, but I went with Red (this would, of course, depend on if it went with the rest of the house or not):

Your Door Says You Are Brutally Honest
You are bold, brave, and easily excited.
You are passionate about what you believe.
And you're never afraid to tell people exactly what you think.
You're picky and particular. It's sometimes hard to meet your standards.

Green (though it didn't let me specify which green; we have a very dark forest green):

You are traditional and conventional.
You aim for the best in life, and you're not going to risk not getting it.
You are naturally stylish and sophisticated.
You feel like you are blending in with the crowd, but your good taste makes you stand out.

Red.

(and it's surprisingly accurate!)

You are bold, brave, and easily excited.
You are passionate about what you believe.
And you're never afraid to tell people exactly what you think.
You're picky and particular. It's sometimes hard to meet your standards.

my front door is currently a dull teal green shade and i cannot wait for it to warm up enough for me to paint it red!

my front door is already orange, by choice. painted it last year after craving orange for at least 3 years.

You are fun, outgoing, and incredibly cheerful.
Life is an choose-your-own adventure for you.
And there's no way you're choosing the beaten path.
You have a warm personality. At times, you feel in love with the whole world.

i also stenciled the icon for "partly cloudy" on a doormat, because the "other resident" keeps his rain clouds close to his chest, and i don't have enough umbrellas to keep me dry.

My house has had only two colors on the front door. It was orignally red (painted to match my car when we built the house) and we replaced the red door with a black door. I'm partially red and partially black. I'm never afraid to tell people exactly what I think and I am strong, consistent and reliable and a bit difficult to know. So, guess I picked the right colors.

Not to be a buzz kill, but this test is silly.

In many cultures doors are painted certain colors as symbols for much larger things. For example, in Chinese culture doors are often painted red at the start of the new year to welcome luck and bring good energy inside.

For Catholics and Episcopals (how I was raised), red doors on a church symbolize the blood of Christ and are an indication that the ground inside the church is holy and a sanctuary from evil. It is based on the story in the old testament book of exodus where Jewish Slaves of Egypt were instructed by God to paint the blood of a sheep on their door so that the Angel of Death would pass over that dwelling and harm no one inside. Or at least that's what I was taught in confirmation class.

In Ireland, front doors are painted red to ward-off ghosts and evil spirits.

I've heard other things as well. Early American settlers saw red doors as a sign of hospitality. It sent a message to road weary travelers that if you stopped at a house with a red door, they would probably be willing to let you stay the night. I've also heard in Scotland it was once traditional to paint your door red once you paid off your mortgage.

Personally, I have a red door because it matches the trim on my house.

Black. I dont recognize any "power" I wield, but the rest os sort of on target.

Chose black, though, as the best complement to the teal with white trim of the house. Black shutters. We like the look...

For blue...

Your Door Says You Are Universally Alluring

You are intriguing and charming.
People are naturally drawn to you, even if they don't know you.
You are calm and wise. You are a true leader.
You never feel isolated in a group. Somehow, you always belong.

I've been really wanting to paint my front door turquoise for months now. My husband and I are still looking for a front door, though, and I'm not sure if the house it's attached to (when we find the house, too) will work with a turquoise door.

I painted mine a soft pea soup green -- not because I liked green, I would prefer red, but my SO doesn't go for that.

We happen to have a brownish tan brick-face house. I like to have blue flowers, such as pansies, on the steps, but they always looked insignificant when I had a white door. Then I went to Belgium and saw some houses like ours. The Belgians also like to plant blue flowers (blue and yellow are evidently their national colors). I noticed some of the houses had an olive trim that made the blue flowers show up nicely, especially when planted in a dark blue-green ceramic container.

Well, the blue hydrangea flowers have turned out pink , and acidifying the soil hasn't helped. The nice green pot from Thailand that held them also broke. But the other blue flowers in other plain terracotta-colored plastic pots and in the ground do look much better. I think it's the green door.

Mine is plum/burgundy Baer Hibiscus Punch, so I picked purple.

Your Door Says You Are Absurdly Fanciful
You are daring, unusual, and extravagant.
You are like an eccentric wealthy person...
Even if you don't have the money to back it up yet.
You crave luxury. You love to feel rich.

Forget about feeling rich! Right now, I'm just craving to be gainfully employed. :-)

My door is olive green:

You aim for the best in life, and you're not going to risk not getting it.
You are naturally stylish and sophisticated.
You feel like you are blending in with the crowd, but your good taste makes you stand out.

But my house is hot pink with yellow/orange trim and is a feature on the local segway tour. Not so much with the blending in...

Our door is white. With a custom cut (by my gorgeous bf) patterned stainless steel diamond with our house number cut out of the centre; which is secured eye height. Behind it is the pastel grey green we painted the house so the numbers match the rest of the house.

You have simple tastes.
You like the classic basics, especially when they're done well.
Lots of space in your life is very important.
You don't like physical or mental clutter.

Mine is rental-unit gray (boo!), so I tested for black and white. The results for black were definitely more accurate.

If I could get away with any color, though, I'd go for a shocking pink door with black trim.

Sounds about right actually.

My door is white and needs paint. I have a rental so I guess my possibilities are endless, I like to think its a canvas for many colors. I had an aluminum door once not sure what that says.

I like this door, I take lost of door pictures when I travel. I guess my door says Door envy-

My front door says I live at home and Mum really likes dark green -_-

One day, I swear, I'm going to take to it with some bright yellow paint.
