Zibra Edge-n-Roll: Tapeless Painting

zibra-edge-roll1.jpg

We don't know about you, but for us the worst part of interior painting is all the prep work, notably all the taping around the edges of doors, windows, and trim throughout the room. This usually takes a few hours in itself. The Zibra Edge-n-Roll supposedly does away with all tape prep, designed with a cover on the outside edges of the rollers that prevent paint from going outside of the line of intent. The roller handle can also twist 180 degrees to get around all the twists and turns. [via GadgetGrid]

I bought a simillar device when repainting some of our rooms. I've never been able to make those ones work that have the tiny wheels and the fuzz...

So mine was a mini roller about 2 inches wide and 1.5" diameter. it had a metal guard on the side of it, the arm with the metal guide also moved to the side for dipping the roller which already looks like a weakness to this one. It looks like if you try to apply paint to this you're going to get the guard painted as well...

Also they usually require a very crisp edge from trim to wall or ceiling to wall or whatever. I was painting an older house that doesn't really have crisp straight edges everwhere.

Best way to trim I have ever found: Get a large metal putty knife, trowel, or tool of the sort. the longer the better, but don't get it over a foot. Take edge and put against corner at about 45 degree angle. Use sponge style paint brush, dab into crack down edge, repeat, repeat. Everyonce in awhile clean the edge, and always put the same side up/down. Works pretty good, I never tape things up when I paint.

I am an employee of Zibra and we are excited to see coverage of this product. We have received a lot of great feedback from consumers who have used the No Tape Edge-n-Roll - they love the results! It is true with all edging tools that in order to create a straight line you must have a straight line. The majority of people who are painting next to trim molding do have a nice straight line to follow. Addressing jmorey's comment about the metal guide - it spreads apart while loading your paint keeping the metal guide free from paint. Zibra depends on its women consumer groups to provide feedback on product development from idea to product. The result: better products for better experiences!

I used the Edge n Roll and it is the first edger I've ever found that actually works without taping! It works just as advertised and even on textured walls. AND I am overly impressed with their customer service. On the second day of painting the tool roller eject tabs malfunctions and the springload springs popped out. Frustrated and thinking this great tool wasn't so great after all, I emailed the company. They responded immediately (and I mean within 2 hours) and put a new tool in priority mail to me the very next day along with some replacement rollers. I am thrilled with this product and highly recommend it.

Suggestion to Zibra - sell separate replacement tools like you do the replacement rollers.
