Reader, Alessandro sent us this beautiful image and tip from their most recent adventure of opening a menswear store in LA called All Purpose. He writes,
When we couldn't find a wallpaper (or decals) that had the right balance of graphic and decorative, we made our own. We painted the wall Benjamin Moore's metallic "liquid mercury" and had matte white decals made at a local sign store. The design started from a William Morris wallpaper which we manipulated in illustrator. We gave the signmaker a digital file and

This is lovely. Can you tell me, was it difficult applying such large and delicate decals. I would love to do this for my bedroom!
Hi Tracey,
The decals are not too difficult to apply (2 people can do it in a snap) however, it can get expensive to cover large areas. I'd say this is more appropriate for a single wall or, even better, to create an ornate headboard on the wall behind your bed.
I think you could get the same effect using a stencil. or am I wrong? This is beautiful, and I love the chandelier...
this is gorgeous. i love it.
just curious, but what is the advantage of this vs. stencils? how much was the printing?
we wanted a very crisp mechanical edge to the pattern which is often difficult with a stencil. there is also a beautiful difference in texture between the painted wall and the vinyl decals. you can definitely achieve a similar look with stencils but it may come off somewhat craft-y; not that there is anything wrong with that :)
