5 Things That Made This Weekend Cozy

IMG_4135_small.jpgDid you guys enjoy the weekend's gloomier weather? The rain gave our plants some much needed water and it gave us a chance to hang out indoors more than usual. We took it as an opportunity to do some nesting and feel a little cozy. With halloween behind us we're starting to plan to host some events over the holidays and we're full of ideas for DIY projects. With all these big ideas, we tried to keep this weekend simple and just did a couple of things to make our home feel more comfortable:

1) Added some light! We checked off a repair we've been meaning to do: finally rehanging our Modernica bubble lamp. We didn't hang it right the first time and it fell in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago (oops!). Now it's softly glowing in what had become quite a dark corner, just in time for the time change and darker evenings.

2) Added some soft underfoot: We've already got some rugs to keep things warm, but our feet still get cold. So our ultimate luxury is a pair of slippers to wear inside the house. We got them out from under the bed and padded around in them all weekend.

3) Good smells: Needing to keep the windows closed for the first time in about 6 months, we realized that the air can get stuffy fast. We looked up an old post on DIY Fall Scents and chose our remedy. This weekend we made yet another pumpkin pie and filled the place with smells of Fall spices.

4) Did some rearranging: The 'living room' area of our apartment was starting to feel more and more cramped so this weekend we did a couple of minor tweaks to make the space feel bigger in anticipation of having people over. We moved anything that didn't belong in there out (and added them to our outbox), added space between the pieces of furniture and made sure things were clean.

5) Slowed Down: We took the time to just sit at home. With a magazine, with the computer and just by ourselves. The coming months can easily turn hectic, so taking time out to enjoy what's happening right now keeps us present and keeps us from getting overwhelmed. It's also a great reminder that the reason we do any work at home is so that it can be enjoyed.

What did you do this weekend?

Sounds like a lot of things to get done in one weekend. I wish my boyfriend and I could accomplish this much in two days. I'm up and adams but he's such slow weekender that to do items seem to drag on unnecessarily. a little off topic, but, any ideas on how to get him to pick up the pace a lil bit? So that we can check some things off the to do list and still have time for afternoon tea and sunday night games?

I love that birch log lamp in the photo...do you make it yourself..Bravo! It is de-lish.

Here was my project this weekend:
I repainted thrift store frames a glossy white and put black and white in drawings in them. oh and went grocery shopping.

Johnny--sounds awesome, would love to see the finished product.

and Nickel525, if I knew how to get someone else to pick up I would definitely share. The only thing I know for certain is that nagging does not help.

Does anyone else know?

for nickel525--here's what we do (i'm the neatnik, he's the not so neatnik) each make a list of things you would love the other to do--you can get as um...creative as you'd like. when one picks an item from the list to do, s/he gets to choose what s/he'd like to receive in return from his or her own list. worth a try (and pretty fun once you get into it). good luck!

Spent Saturday with the family and Sunday cleaning and batch cooking. It's a really crazy week here, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible by having the house clean and the food cooked.

This was actually one of the best weekends in a long time! We got my parents to babysit our son and went out for a snack on Friday. Afer that we went for a quick drink (juice for me, 6 months pregnant) and then to the movies. My bf had to work on Saturday, but I slept in and when I got up had a nice, long, slow breakfast while reading the paper. Then put together our son's new flat packed bed and went to pick him up. We had invited friends over for dinner and my bf did all the cooking. Had a lovely evening with our friends and got up early Sunday morning and played with our son. Cozied up a bit while he took his nap, then I went to a book café alone to just sit and read. Came home, had dinner, put our son to bed, watched a bit of TV and went to bed. Perfect!!!

I was in the same boat as whytephoenix. And I also have a world class stye so my right eye is the size of a beachball. That has been a lot of fun to cozy up to.

somebody is my bedroom twin....I'm Kristen, my fiance is Jon and that really is my side of the bed! I didn't do it using pillows, I used wall letters above the bed. But he would never let me do a pink or a purple bedroom. Boo, stuck with blue.

we also hung a lamp. made some chicken soup. got caught up on some good books. got the fireplace going. slept in. we didn't get a lot done, frankly, but we got a lot of sleep and down-time, so we figure it was a fair trade off. now back to a busy week, where we now have to get a lot done

Where are these pillows on the bed from? I love the embroidered initials!

I, too, would love to know where the initial pillows are from.
