Showers are good for getting things done: hair washed, legs shaved, dirt off. But baths, for us, are the cherry on top. You already know how many producst we keep in the bathroom and they're mainly for taking baths. And now in the new place we've got a bathtub that is long enough to stretch out in and narrow enough that it doesn't take much water to fill it up. We've noticed that we've been here about 2 weeks and have only taken 2 showers.
How about you? Are you more a bath or a shower person? And has that changed over the years? Or because of where you've lived?

I started taking baths in my old place, because the tub was huge. I'd bath it probably twice a month, either at the end of the day or - even better - in the morning, setting a calm tone to my entire day. I could practically lie down, it was so big.
My new place has a tub with Whirpool jets - sounds great on paper! - but the tub is way smaller. I've taken one bath, and it was cold and uncomfortable. Jets are overrated. It's size that counts.

Baths! Always.

At home I shower.
When I'm on a cruise I always get a suite with a jacuzzi tub - and I use it daily.

I always shower now, but I always wish I had more time for a bath. I've got the bath stuff, anyway ... I should pencil in a bath.

my God, this is gorgeous! would be absolutely perfect with some sort of step or "seat" in a corner where one could put their leg up for shaving, or for holding shampoos, etc.
showers, definitely! I can't ever seem to stay in the bath tub for too long.

When I bought my condo I had the option to "upgrade" the bathtub to a shower. I stuck with the bath because that way I can have a shower when in a rush and a bath when I want to relax. I live in a cold climate and really enjoy my baths this time of year.

I like having both shower and bathtub but if I had to choose, I'd take that shower in the above photo any day.

Well, ahem, I think personally the solution is a shower in the bathroom and a really nice hottub in the backyard, but that's just me.

I'm not a soaker. I do not enjoy baths... unless I'm sick then in actually feels like an indulgence. But even then, I'd rather steam in the shower to clear the crud from my head.
So Shower for me. It's just so much more tidy.

I was never big on baths when I had a tub. I would use it maybe twice a year the rest of the time I showered. Now my place only has a shower and I find myself lingering over bath salts and scented oils when I'm shopping.
I wonder if I'd use a bath more often now that I know what it's like to not have the option.

I'm much more a shower person. I only take a bath when I'm sore or need some serious downtime. That said, I'm a fan of SFGail's take on the subject. ;)

Separate bath and shower would be ideal.
But I wouldn't give up a bathtub. Perhaps it's the eeenglish in me.

I shower and take the occasional bath when I'm in the mood. But baths aren't really for bathing, just for relaxing and drinking wine. :)

I shower only. I never understood sitting in a tub of water, which over time ends up being a soup of your daily encounters.

baths always! i think its mostly bc all the showers i've ever had were awful and had terrible water pressure... also, i'm always always freezing - so being able to basically boil myself is wonderful. its the only way i've found to get the chill out of my bones.
i sound like i'm 80.. good thing i'm just 23.

I'm a shower person by default of small tub. BUT I broke my foot on new years day and can't put ANY pressure on it. So by default I am now a bath person... with my leg sticking out of the tub. I hate the freeze factor, but I certainly have been able to try every bubble, oatmeal, tea, aromatic bath there is.
ps. only one more week of baths for me

I never want to have a day so busy that I can't take a bath. I take one everyday at the end of the day. Plus, I am tiny :) , so I fit.

Showers. I like baths, but its a waste of water because I always shower afterwards. Is that wrong? I just can't wrap my head around the concept of taking a bath and shaving my legs and shampooing my hair...and then sitting in the residue. Grrroooosss.

Showers are the standard in my house. I enjoy the occasional hot bath for relaxation, but I mostly use the tub for ice baths after long training runs.

When my children were still at home I always showered. Now that I have more time to myself I always take a bath. I don't know whether I thought I could respond to a household emergency quicker while showering, but my choice of bath or shower has certainly changed!!

Shower only. We got rid of our tub and turned the space into a big shower (enough room for two...)

Love this picture! My showers only have water to last for 7 min, after that it turns cold. The only time I get to take baths is when i'm in a hotell.

Shower...I am jealous of people who relax with baths...but if I did have extra time for a bath, I wouldn't spend it bathing. I would have an extra glass of wine : )

For a site that has a link to a green home site (re-nest.com) and that promotes the efficient use of resources have you ever tought the amount of energy that goes into warming your bath tub water, the heated space it occupies and the number of times one can actually use it? You would be surprised how many people dont get to drink the amount of water you use on taking baths.

I like showers for quickly getting my day started or scrubbing after the gym. But when I used to live in an apartment with a separate bath/shower I used to have a bath every night. It was a nice way to unwind after a day at the office. I would talk on the phone to catch up with friends who lived far away, flip through magazines, drink tea or a glass of wine. I miss those days. Now we have a shower in the bath and the tub is gross so I never use it but for showering. Though it was nice to fill it with cold water and soak last summer when it was hot in my ac-less apartment.

I love showers but my wife takes a bath everyday and has converted me to having a soak at least once a week. It helps that we have long old soaking tub and a big hot water heater to fill it up high. I can't imagine living in a place without a good tub. A small kitchen, not alot of living space ok but I need a decent bathroom.

shower.
we re-did our bathrooms just before moving 1 year ago, and our shower (converted from a tub) looked just like the above, except instead of a window, we had a huge skylight -- with the proper ventilation, so no condensation -- so when you showered at night, you did so under the moon and stars... so romantic!
we also put in a proper deep tub (not too wide, not too long, but long enough for us to completely stretch out in) in our second bathroom. it too was under a skylight... oh it was ...divine!
here, we have nasty, tiny narrow tubs that are under the eaves -- at the drain end of the tub, the ceiling is down to 3'. oh -- and they serve as our showers too. (the bathrooms and kitchen in this house are horrible -- the only thing we really hate about our european posting).

showers religiously for me.

cool shower -- run to the hot tub when in my last apartment -- hot shower. Sometimes I wish I could afford a hot tub (well actually the cleaning service...)

Showers, hands down. Tubs almost invariably gross me out (except maybe a big huge sparkling clean whirlpool), and even without that factor I find them uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. I never quite feel clean when I get out of a tub, either.
If I owned my place I would convert the tub into a walk in shower like the one above in a heartbeat.

I'm in the same boat as pkswede. We have enough hot water for a short shower, and even though we have a bathtub, there is not enough hot water to fill it more than a couple of inches. I miss baths soooooooo much!
And vieboheme, nobody said you can't enjoy a wine while in the bath!
