Reminder: Ladder Safety

At the Mission Viejo Mall, there's a current campaign that says "'Tis the Season to be Careful." It's sponsored by the neighboring Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, who want to remind everyone about the number of fall-related injuries they receive this time of year. The Orange County Register recently published a good list of tips to keep in mind when using a ladder this holiday season. Some of these include...

- Use the 4-1 rule for extension ladders: For each four feet of distance between the ground and the upper point of contact (such as the wall or roof), move the base of the ladder out one foot.

- Keep your body centered on the ladder and gauge your safety by your belt buckle. If your buckle passes beyond the ladder rail, you are over reaching and at risk of falling.

You can find more tips about ladder safety at the Home Safety Council's website. Read the entire article here.
