Staycation: Alora Ambiance

080508_alora.jpgOne of the best ways to feel transported is through scent. The smell of sage still conjures up for us memories of summer camp. We like to light lavender candles to help us relax and sometimes add essential oils to the bath. But nothing has transported us like this blend of jasmine, cucumber, basil and ylang ylang:

The Alora Ambiance line of reed diffusers and heavenly scents (we love Due in particular) are pricey and totally worth it. We would normally eschew these as frou frou and unnecessary but when we added one to the bedroom we noticed that we relaxed each time we caught of waft of the scent. It is neither overpowering nor muted, it diffuses just the right amount of smell around the room to make it fresh and soothing.

So if you plan to spend August at home, we seriously recommend that you invest in one of these. Ours lasted for months and never lost its intensity (and also never made us sneeze) and made us feel like we were staying in a fancy hotel. See the whole line on the Alora website. We bought ours at Planet Blue on Main Street in Santa Monica.

I have a bottle of Jasmine room perfume that I purchased in Nice years ago and every time I spray it, i am reminded of my time in cote d'azur.

great post!

I love rich, complex scents; will definitely check out these oil diffusers.

You don't need to spend a lot to do this.
I made my own version, with bamboo skewers in a vintage glass bottle. I used essential oils from my favorite natural body care store and it works like a dream.
