Doggy Danger: Four Paws Pimple Ball Recall

090308_fourpawspimp.jpgSafety warning to all pet owners: if you got Four Paws Pimple Ball for your doggy, you may want to get rid of it. We ran across this heart-wrenching story about Chai, a 10 year old lab mix who had a part of his tongue amputated as a result of playing with this toy. After our own dogs' near-brush experience with the sago palms, we've become a lot more cautious about the toys we give our dogs and the plants we have in our homes.

Yikes, my dog has the Pet Co version of this ball. I'm throwing it out immediately. Such a shame, he loves the darn thing.

That nearly happened to my dog a few years ago! Luckily we discovered it pretty quickly and got him to the hospital right away, but most of his tongue was pretty bruised and we had a hard time keeping him fed and hydrated while it healed...

My mom wanted to push for a recall, but the lady at the vet's office she talked to about said it probably wouldn't do anything... Is this an official recall? Or just pet owners spreading the word that you really shouldn't buy it?

Even DEADLY pet food is not being recalled anymore. The FDA will even HELP a company cover up a deadly product.
We call these types of FDA assisted scams a "silent" recall and it can and has killed a lot of pets.

It is a bad situation, it is getting worse and your only hope is to stay on top of the news that pet owners are providing on the net to each other, here is a place to start.

Thats despicable. How difficult would it be to add a second hole on the opposite side to prevent the vacuum effect?! This company should recall this product immediately not because it is ordered to by a governing body, but because it is a dangerous product that could be made safer and better through an inexpensive design change.

roseslaw, at the site I posted above you can read the whole list of sickening excuses this company has made for not doing the right thing. There are a lot of pet product and pet food companies making a lot of lame excuses or outright lies and a lot of pets dying because of it.

Got a really strong stomach? Take a look at this

note the horrifying vet bills. Forget paying off YOUR student loans because if your pet gets sick or dies from any of this crap, you will be paying off your veterinarian's school loans.

Be sure not to ever keep your paper shredder set to "auto-on" if you have pets (or children). A neighbor's dog suffered a horrible death when he licked the shredder. Absolutely tragic.

All of us at Four Paws were truly saddened about the reports of injuries caused by a manufacturing defect in our Pimple Boy Toy. We have recalled this product. The Four Paws Pimple Ball was designed with two holes so that the suction inside the toy would be properly regulated. However in some of the balls the second smaller hole was blocked. This is a manufacturing defect and not a problem with the design of the ball. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to see the defect with the naked eye. Therefore, in addition to repairing the toy molds, we are also changing the packaging of the Pimple Balls. The packaging change will result in a tie that must clear both holes, thus insuring there are always two clear holes in the toy. We have posted a consumer alert on our website - www.fourpaws.com - with our 800 number and address so consumers can contact us directly and return the product. I am personally visiting our manufacturer to inspect their operation to ensure that this defect is being fixed and that no product leaves their facility until the new processes they have put in place eliminate the possibility of this ever happening again. Even one injury to a beloved pet is one injury too many and we won't rest until we are sure this to is safe for every dog.

Well it's wonderful to know they are doing something about it. The packaging idea is perfect.

Thank you FourPaws for taking action to protect our beloved pets.
