Tekki Cast Iron paper weights

Whooooo's afraid of the dark? We certainly aren't when it comes to the current trend for black accessories, especially when they're as cute as these guys! We spotted these cute cast iron owl paperweights in the latest Domino, and saw that they were available at Tortoise (in Venice). These pieces are called "nanbu-tekki" in Japanese, which is considered the highest brand of ironware in Japan.

Tortoise also caries two other shapes, a bird and a tortoise as well. All pieces are $45 each and available on their website. However, if you're in Venice, definitely check out the small but charming store for other wonderful Japanese handcrafts.

My Mom has the owl and while I'm not sure it's nanko-tekki but looks just like the owl and it's been around our house since, I think the 70's or 80's.

I also have the owl. It was my dad's and around as long as I can remember. I do love it.
