Oh how we wrestled with whether or not to share our favorite nursery! We've taken the high road and decided that it's too good not to share. Green Arrow, nestled (buried?) in the heart of the valley has pretty much anything you might be looking for, in a variety of sizes and excellent prices. Plus you get to wheel one of those red wagons around picking out what you want:

First off, the place is huge. Shade plants, house plants, big plants, trees, roses, mosses, fountains, you name it. But the best part about Green Arrow is their huge collection of smaller plants in 2" and 4" pots that are really cheap (they're to your right as you first walk in). So if you have the patience to let the plants grow into the space, then you can stock up on a lot of plants and not break your budget. We often peruse this section to get ideas and stock up on plants that might be too expensive once they get bigger.
And because they're in the Valley they have an incredible selection of drought tolerant grasses, flax, succulents and cacti. It seems far since it's all the way up the 405, but it's so worth it for the inspiration and prices.
Anyone else have a favorite nursery the want to share?
I've heard a lot of good things about Green Arrow and have been meaning to check it out. Your pics have sealed the deal for me.

Thank you so much! I am plant shopping this weekend. I love the Sunset Nursery on Fountain Avenue and Sunset Boulevard, but it can be a bit pricey. On the flipside, it is a local nursery and the customer service is superb.

I grew up down the street from Green Arrow. I remember going there with my mom all the time.
Now I live in Long Beach, but my favorite nursery is in Costa Mesa at The Plant Stand - www.plant-stand.com

Roger's Gardens in Newport Beach is my absolute favorite. They can be pricey, but the inspiration they provide is free! Across the street from Fashion Island, one block up from PCH. http://www.rogersgardens.com/default.asp

Never heard of this place. Looks like a great resource for succulents and such for the water saving minded folks. Thanks for posting.

I just sourced and priced plants at the Garden Center in Marina Del Rey. I am always looking for a good and preferably privately owned nursery. Thanks for the post.

Hi Seaside, I've found the garden center to be an excellent place for variety but it tends to have higher prices!

That Roger's Gardens was beautiful, but looks very pricy. I think even with my mostly brown thumb, I could do some of those orchid arrangements with plants from Trader Joes.
http://www.seaside-gardens.com/ has some beautiful inspiration, too, but no outdoor furniture.

Laure, I agree. I just took notes on the plants I like and am researching them to make sure that they work with my soil type and are as drought resistant as possible. Once I fine tune my seletion, I will purchase from a nursery that is more economical.
