Moth Orchids

orchid-11-27-05.jpg
We don’t know anything about plants, but we do love them so. We like treating ourselves to the occasional Trader Joe’s $12 orchid, enjoy the six or so flowers until they fall from their stem and then… well, we put it in the basement (and by “basement” we mean trash).

But look what we forgot to chuck! We found it stretching and yawning and saying hello about a month ago, and then on Thanksgiving morning, this! Who says growing orchids is hard? We say, “Bring it! Bring on those Moth Orchids that literally grow themselves!”

That's been my experience, too. I've a handful of orchid plants which I water from time to time. If they don't bloom again, what of it? Most houseplants are just leaves anyway. But three of them have bloomed again despite the fact that I do NOT beleve in pampering houseplants.

i love keeping orchids, they aren't so difficult. i've had 2 orchid plants from trader joe's for a year now. try a little miracle grow from time to time (once a month). they'll keep bloomin! almost as fun as forcing bulbs.

Your money will go farther if you skip TJ's and go to the Flower Mart downtown. Same price, much nicer plants.
