I LOVE it! Such a unique vision that's thoroughly carried through every room and the art. From the front door to the bathroom tiles. You mentioned you want to re-do your bedroom floors? Maybe you could do a similar wood solution as you did in the bathroom. You're obviously up for a challenge!

Total house envy here. Love everything. Lots of details, but still so clean and simple. The rug in the TV area is amazing, as are all of the chairs.

As someone who has spent time in Rene's space, I can tell you that it is as peaceful, creative and fantastic as it looks. Nothing beats a glass of wine on her patio.

the carpet in the tv room is ikea *from 2006
*i love the idea for doing the floors in "tiled" wood
*the ceiling fans were new when i moved in, and believe they are from lowes
*the coffee table was also an ikea find and it came in this small version and also a larger rectangle version
* yes, the photographer did an amazing job, with capturing the light and also had a great eye to pick out all the textures and art combos that i loved :)
* the kramfors ikea couch was called "resede gray"

not a fan of the furniture here. but i LLLOVE the art and the use of color throughout the house.

i LOVE seeing ikea pieces look not so ikea-ish, and so personal and seamlessly integrated.

. . . and i think homegirl did a great job of doing that because there is A LOT of ikea in that house. the only reason i know is bc i've been there 2 days in a row for extended periods of time trying to straighten some things out with a bookcase - BUT if not i would totally not know.

I agree with pokinatcha103. I didn't even notice that the sofa in the living room was a Kramfors. The ikea stuff looks quite chique and expensive in this house. I absolutely love it!

Its my dream home...I would love to illustrate children's books, but I could paint other things. I mainly work with acrylics, but I also use watercolors and pen and ink.

Such a sweet and happy home! I have absolutely no beef with Ikea... I think in the right setting, with the right amount of "living in" you miss the Ikeaness of the pieces. All you get is a beautiful cohesive happy home. I love this tour! I'm hoping to buy a small place sometime next year, and I'll be furnishing a lot of it with Ikea as that's all I can afford - I only hope I'll be able to accomplish what you have here. Except my dog is blonde. :) Thank you for sharing.

I registered to comment just so I could share the love for this home. It makes me want to rush back to my flat and strip everything out and start again. Favourite house tour ever, from the little TV corner, to the Mondrian-style bathroom tiles, to the art above the bed. The colour palette is gorgeous and so classic. Layout is unfussy and clean, and ripe for creativity.

I used to have that fan (it was from lowes) but I installed it myself and apparently didn't do a good job, since the globe fell off the first night and shattered all over the floor.

Your home is what I always visioned but have yet to pull off.

This is one of my all-time favorites. It is so light and clean. And I love the handcraft/global pieces against the modern backdrop. And I love that even the landscape echoes Rene's art.

I absolutely adore this! I love the door, the artwork, the soothing palatte... Everything! The only "but" I have is that the bed looks uncomfortable and a little too sparse for my taste. That having been said, it's still lovely.

Rene, your place looks stunning! I can't believe you decided to sell it. Someone's about to hit the jackpot...

This is very clean and simple, I love the computer area, the chair looks comfy! Agreed the fans are awesome, and add to the room. The minimal colors make the room look elegant.

I *hate* when AT photogs show a great home but don't give you a sens of the flow of the house. Add a friggin' plan and drop one of the close-ups of a pillow or the repeat shots of the Ikea chaise!

But the house itself is incredible. Great choices all around. THe tile work in the bathroom! OMG.

The art is gorgeous, and I will be trawling her site to see if anything is affordable.

the glass itself is from a vintage coffee table i got from a second hand store....i just put the glass atop ikea "legs" to make the desk.

and yes....tis true, i have alot of ikea. but it has worked well with an artists budget :)....

I live in Austin also, and I loooove what you've done with your place...especially the backyard. My house has a similar style as this yours. Who did the landscaping? I would love to do the same thing in my backyard.

the landscaping design was courtesy of my friend/art collector patrick oussey of FAB architecture in austin. they are fabulous!

to azusa2,,,,,,all the pillows in my house are either vintage fabrics from l.a....or a store here in austin....( cant remember the name, but can find out for you)......i bought the fabrics and had my tailor/dry cleaner make the pillows :)

ps. if anyone has dogs or is looking for landscaping that prevents alot of dirt/mud from coming back into the house, the crushed gravel is the way to go. it really was an instant cure!.....i did alot of the work myself, re; cutting the earth to form the rectangle and laying the metal trim...and also some wheelbarrows of gravel. the gravel is from "whittelsey" in round rock, tx.....they have a plethora of colors, sizes, and also will deliver big truckloads to your house for a very reasonable price.
the other plus to the gravel is that is makes weeding (and picking up dog&6# droppings) a cinch.....much like a litter box. :)

What a beautiful apartment! I'm currently taking acai burn extreme to get in shape for a movie role for the summer that should give me some good bucks to buy a place like this :)

And I'm impressed by the fact that there is no glass in front of the beautiful collection behind the sofa; my first thought was "No way, not with my cat!", then read that the owner has a dog, lol. Oh well, maybe I'll go for doors to be on the safe side.

This is the first home of which I've saved more than one photo, by the way. Fantastic job!

At first, I didn't think that I would like this home because of the "cold factor" in the white walls, but it's very visually interesting. The artwork and colors really warms it up.
