Retro Office wrote to say that the store will give Apartment Therapy readers a 15% discount when they mention they saw this post!

05-09-logo-steel-.jpgIn a world of funkified retro steel case office furniture, Retro Office, Inc. might be the store to beat.

05-09-gallery-BOWTOP.jpgThe selection is huge, with a 15000 Sq.foot warehouse to hunt down your perfect piece. The color choices and finish styles are plentiful, and they have the credenzas that we love so much! Starting at around $1300, these beauties are stripped, sanded and clear-coated with 5 coats to ensure “maximum protection.”

Also in stock are tanker desks, chairs and a great vintage lamp (starting at $100). All in all a great addition to the steel furniture stores that are the go-to for so many Hollywood writer-types.

I got completely ripped off by this company. They have been terrible to deal with and have yet to return my money after shipping me the wrong item.

I am the President of Retro Office, Inc. We have never ripped off anyone and are always honest. First, did you inspect the product before accepting it? Second, did you return it to us? Why would we refund your money if we do not have our product back. I have no record of you, so please contact me at brad@retrooffice.com and let's figure it all out.

Remember people, this is custom furniture, it is vintage, not new....Be patient and work with us, don't post nonsense on pages like this without contact me, Brad Hodge first.

Hi,

Just wanted to give a reliable source for this furniture as I see there seems to be a need for it from the comments above...

Twenty Gauge has been specializing in refinishing vintage steel furniture furniture for over a decade and have tons of one of a kind items and rare items that no one else offers for this type of vintage metal furniture.
We also POWDERCOAT ALL of our vintage steel furniture pieces and it is KEY-no shortcuts with this kind of metal furniture.
Contact me if you have any questions about anything related to this: vintage steel furniture, mid-century furniture, stainless steel furniture, but also metal, steel, shipping, etc... -does not have to be about buying! :)
We have sales and promotional offers from time to time in case you are interested in investing in this vintage steel furniture though!

PS: we gurantee our work and ship worldwide for over a decade!

RETROOFFICE IS A NIGHTMARE!!!

WE RECEIVED A DAMAGE PIECE FROM THIS COMPANY
BRAD, THE PRESIDENT, PROMISED TO PICK-UP THE DAMAGE PIECE AND REPLACE IT.
HE MADE THIS COMMITMENT ALMOST A YEAR AGO AND EVERYTIME WE CONTACT HIM, HE SAID TO BE PATIENT

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SUE THEM

WHAT A RIPOFF!!

Seriously now...We have terms and conditions for a reason. If you do not wish to follow them, then I cannot help you. You must notate the damage on the bill of lading. Do you buy a car without checking for damage? Same thing except the desk stays in the same spot, you have three entire days to inspect, anyone with two winks of a thought process can get this through their head.

J.C., I figured you would swoop this low to negative advertise against us. Every company has its problems, customers, and customer issues. Leave mine alone, and to my customers; This is not the place to fight about damaged freight. Obviously, we would be shut down if we were doing anything wrong, it is not our fault you do not read.

Conclusion,

We were the first to produce this furniture, Twenty Gauge is a follower and does not know the start of it. Steelcasey started his work in my dads shop after his was burned down over 25 years ago. At least we know the truth. J.C. take your negative nonsense and focus on your own business.

Buyers: We guarantee our work, and will match or beat any of Twenty Gauge prices. Show us there written quote, and we will surprise you.

Dear Brad,

As you said this is no place to post gripes, I merely recommended my company as another source and in no way bad mouthed yours.

We both have our own standards and that is all there is to it.
No worries.

I wish you lots of success in 2009, your website looks more and more porofessional, good job!

Regards,

I just put together my McDowell & Craig 60" quad leg table from this company. First of all, I want to praise the company on the WONDERFUL paint job they did. I had it done in safety orange with a brushed steel top. It looks just like the one on the website. I think it's awesome I have a piece of vintage office furniture that has a decidedly hip look. I'm finally going to have a home office. I saw the mention of this company in a 2008 issue of GQ and decided to take a chance.

I would like to offer a critique, however. When I purchased the table from Brad, he did not take my contact info. Just my credit card info. I had to call that in. Furthermore, I didn't receive an official invoice until about a month later. The table took more than a month to get here, and I'm not sure that that's standard as Brad said it wasn't a difficult order, but I am just thankful it arrived unharmed and it excellent condition.

definitely a total nightmare dealing with this company. I would highly suggest against purchasing from them. a few years ago I ordered a tanker desk from them. my debit card was charged and no desk ever showed up. after many months of never being able to contact brad (phone, email, leaving vmails), and the girl answering the phone not having a clue, I ended up having to file a dispute with my bank for online fraud. I've never dealt with anything close this in my life and I buy almost everything online. very shady place to say the least.

Message to Vortex,

You obviously are not telling the truth! I have no clue who you are, I am sure that if I knew your name I could find out and tell the public what really happened. If no desk showed up, you were not there and never were there. We have never once been involved in fraud, and deliver every piece.

If this is an exception, post it live so everyone can see your contact information. I post my information all over the place, and have not got one single phone call from you. If anyone has a question about this, check out our bbb report, or call the FBI if you need to, nobody has nothing on us, and we stand on our company.

This sounds more like a negative advertising ring going on here! You guys forget about the furniture.

We have never once got an order, and not delivered.

Darius, sounds more like you placed your order with someone else when I was not there, I do not do business like that. I was in Europe for 3 weeks, so if my employees had a fart, don't blame it one Brad!

brad, sorry but you are wrong. I ordered my desk and it never showed up. you never shipped it. it was not a matter of me not being home. I spoke to you on the phone at least twice (after much hassle trying to contact you) and for some unknown reason you were never able to produce a desk OR a refund to me, which is why I went to the bank with a dispute. if you are denying my debit card was not charged then that is not the truth. when my bank contacted you there was a prompt refund, this was after MONTHS of you doing nothing to resolve the issue. I'd be more than happy to give you my information so you can check your "records".

I had been interested in ordering some stuff from these guys for a while. I've noticed their prices are more reasonable than others...but became suspicious after reading this thread.

A huge advantage I have is living only about 10 minutes away. I went and checked them out and I can vouch that they do actually exist…and it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere anytime soon. Their warehouse is pretty large and overflowing with works in progress.

They didn’t have too much in the way of completely finished items; it is a lot more like a working warehouse than a showroom…but the stuff they did have finished was nice. I bought three lateral file drawers to use as an entertainment stand. They have a few minor dings and scratches…but I’m happy as I knew this going in.

If I were in another’s situation I could see how I might be upset if I thought I was ordering a pristine shelf and then it showed up in its current condition. But then, if I were expecting a pristine piece…I’d expect to pay a much higher price.

Blanket statements usually suck…but if I were to make one I would say this; the furniture here is good condition working furniture. If you want a nice looking tanker desk to use in your home office…you’re going to get that. If you are trying to have your home featured in “Architectural Digest”…you want furniture that you can inspect before purchasing.

To the people having trouble…I understand your frustration. Hopefully you’re able to work something out. I don’t think Brad was the name of the gentlemen that I dealt with…but whomever he was, he was a really nice guy…so I’d try to keep working with them; but like I said…it was face to face.
