Color Inspiration: The white swirl bed quilt inspired my palette for the bedroom nook in my loft space. Although white, it has aqua and navy in it, and reminded me of the sea. I wanted to make the bed nook cozy and nautical, so I chose navy for the back wall, grey stripes for the half wall to the left of the bed, and faux bois paneling that I painted in an aqua/grey combination using a faux bois tool on the right wall.

Color Inspiration continued: The headboard of the bed is tromp l'oiel, as it is painted onto the wall with a peralized paint. I added nail head detail to create the illusion of an upholstered headboard. The furniture at the foot of the bed was formerly two nightstands that received refinished drawer fronts, a painted grey exterior, and bright yellow legs. I made the bed pillow shams by appliquing a bright chain link pattern that I cut from an aqua and white fabric onto a navy and white floral print. The tiny vintage oil painting of a ship above the bed got a facelift when I laquered the dark, dingy frame in a glossy, grey enamel. Other items in the space are a mirror that I made using broken mirror pieces, and a pirates poster from 826 Valencia with two Kidrobot Dunnys on top. The bedside tables were formerly old metal window boxes that I retrofitted with white holiday light strands.
Colors Used: The dark blue wall behind the bed is Sullivan by Ralph Lauren
The faux bois paneled wall is Baltic Green by Ralph Lauren and Pale Grey by Ralph Lauren. The stripe wall is Loft Living and Pale Grey by Ralph Lauren
Color Tip: My best tip for using color successfully is to keep trying different things until you love the combo that you've come up with!

Wonderful! I love your faux bois wall and the nightstands/chests at the foot of the bed, and didn't even notice the headboard was fake until you pointed it out. Nicely done.

Woah, I'm freaking loving this... it's dark but fun... and looks so comfortable!

I really like the pictures - but I don't see the link to your palette swatch. It looks more grey than blue to me (but that might be my screen) and why didn't you include yellow in your palette swatch? It's the best part!! Either way - fun accents!

Forget the color, I love the idea of those two sets of drawers for your footboard.

love the pink hangers popping off the wall and the drawers at the foot - i love the whole thing

There are so many great elements of this space, the headboard, the set of drawers but the colours you don't even include on your swatch are the ones that make it work. The yellow and the grays are great choices and work well together and remind me of recent design mags and site that have featured that combo.
I guess I'm also not understand creating faux 70's looking wood paneling for a nautical theme especially when it doesn't go to the ceiling.

Cute and clever! I especially love the pop of yellow at the foot of the bed and all the different textures-- you're getting a lot out of the small space.

Wow, the amount of thought and effort you put into this small place is so impressive, it's really paid off. Among the too many details to mention (although others have mentioned many of them) I love that headboard, the multi-headed lamp and also that you only papered the wall on the right about four-fifths of the way up, it really takes the boxy look off the alcove and makes it look much more opened up.

I think I smell a house tour!! If the bedroom is this pretty, I can't imagine the rest of the house would be any different.

I love this. Every detail is fabulous and creative, and it looks like an inviting and comfortable space to be in. But I wish we could have seen more of this room - that yellow chair in the first photo is such a tease.

LOVE your style!!

lovely room, definitely thumbs up. though my impression was identical to the opinions about the palette not correlating to the dominant colors in the photographs- what you've got going on in the actual room is better than the trio you claim is your palette.

Bravo! I really like the dark blue wall and wanted to say that your wood floors are stunning. So rich!

this room inspires me. Where are those accent pillows with the chain links from?

Apaglino,

Love your headboard - your entire bedroom!

BlankSlate,
Hi. The lamp is from Bed/Bath & Beyond online a few years back. I believe Target online has similar styles.

I went to Home Depot to check out the sample of your paint. I think I'm convinced to use it as my navy blue walls. I've had 10 different swatches of dark blue to decide between, but none of them won me over like Sullivan!
