When we need extra seating, our go-to move consists of footstools and chairs from the kitchen. But we're really starting to admire the poof--and its design quality. Squishy and comfy, they can be easily moved around at a moments notice. Ten ways to use them after the jump!
Shown above, top row, left to right:
- Drape an afghan over your pouf for color and texture
- Have one close by to use as a footstool
- We'd use ours for extra seating when there are a surplus of guests
- Display a pair in front of a non-working fireplace to create a vignette
- If you're afraid of painting, use a pouf in the living room for a pop of color
Shown above, bottom row, left to right:
- A group of poufs are great for creating seating when dining around a coffee table
- Add a tray on top of a larger pouf to make a coffee table or workspace
- Since poufs are squishy and are without hard edges, they're safe for kids
- A large pouf can stand on its own to act as extra seating or a place for items to land
- You can always make your own pouf if you're crafty and can knit

I thought this thread would be about something completely different.

Yes, I love poufs, too. But when I had one nobody used it. Maybe it has to be as big as the one in pic 9.

Wow, that one in #9 is great. I usually hate poufs.

I think you mean pouffe not pouf, unless you plan to wear it on your head.

dmstudio: it appears in modern times, the term "pouf" is used interchangeably with "pouffe" in the home furnishings business and retail. But I believe your correction notes where the popularity of use stemmed from in the first place years back: mistaken spelling.

I have two of the orange poufs from the last picture. They're great, I use them all the time. Since I have a small apartment I didn't want to waste space with a dining table. I just sit on my poufs and eat at the coffee table. They are also great for adding a pop of color.

Recently I moved into a new place, and i'm currently on the hunt for some new floor cushions or poufs. I've always loved their look and feel.
Yet, aside from the traditional Moroccan style, I've found there aren't many being carried this season, which is very dissapointing. While West Elm and Crate & Barrel do have large floor cushions, there isn't a lot of variety in the color or materials. Not to mention they're a bit expensive.
Anyone have any other leads?

Everyone has poufs on their minds today. I just blogged about West Elm's sheepskin pouf, which is now on sale at $299. If it didn't cost so much, I would buy it for my cat to lounge on!

I'm so glad that last pic from Elle Decor is on this post! I cut it out a few years ago and still love it. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw this post.
I just picked up 3 poufs for about $100 total from Morocco. I plan to let my young nieces sit on them (if they ever actually sit) when they're over. Just need to get them stuffed and functional now...

I had a floor cushion project in-the-works that sorta went work. Lately I came across a free patterns and instructions to make your own pouf. It was the perfect fix to my unfinished floor cushion. I just cut the pieces out of that fabric and sewed them together to make the pouf. It was really simple and done in about 2 or 3 hours. It works great in my living room. I'm totally loving it right now.
For all the diy-ers, just do a search for the directions. Not much time and totally worth it.

I'm sure this has been discussed in other pouf posts, but I'm wondering what people find to be the best type of material to use as stuffing for their poufs.

I love the white pouf in #7 with the tray on it. Big gorgeous pouf.
Is it pouf or poof?
