Oh I need to do this. I need to hunt down a good place to get flowers in Silverlake first. I used to do Trader Joe's but I always feel like I rush myself and just grab whatever.

i keep giving in to the temptation of dahlias. they are gorgeous in the store, but seem to die immediately upon arrival at my apartment. what gives? this doesn't happen with other kinds of flowers.

Yes, those spiky flowers are allium. Costco is a great resource for fresh flowers. Dahlias are definitely a challenge. Be sure to cut the stems at an angle when you bring them home, use clean water and make sure there are no leaves below the water's surface.
