Perhaps a more appropriate title to this post would be, "Alexander Girard wishlist." After all, some of these items are on the pricier side, and who's splurging this holiday season? (Not me.) But, it's always nice to look and perhaps, even get inspired in case you're going the handmade gift route this year (we-ell, except the Electra Girard bike...unless you're really handy...). So what's on our roundup of Alexander Girard items we desperately want but can't afford items? Take a look after the jump...
If there's one New Year's Resolution we'd like to stick to, it's to cut back on driving. Electra Bikes recently unveiled its Amsterdam 3-speed Girard bike, featuring two designs: The Madonna (in red), and the Tree of Life (in white). Not only is it a good looking bike (matching saddle, grips, and comes with a bell), but it's an overall great bike to coast around town. It's available through Electra dealers only.
Eric Pfeiffer, co-author of Bent Ply: The Art of Plywood Furniture, teamed up with Máximo to create a series of hand-screened prints on plywood sheets that are formaldehyde-free. Each Ply Print measures 14"x14" and priced at $89.00.
And of course, there is the Alexander Girard FLOR carpet tiles, featuring his famous La Fonda del Sol collection. This six-tile Pequeno FLOR rug (each tile measures 19.7" square with 9 suns per square) is $159.99.
Looking for some textile design inspiration? Girard's whimsical styles are classics. We particularly like the simple graphic design of the Fruit Tree screenprinted pillows ($79); as well as the scrawling loops on the Names Crimson woven pillow ($150.00).
And finally: toys we'd give ourselves and keep away from the kids. (No, really, we would). A few years back, House Industries came out with Girard-inspired alphabet blocks ($100), putting a nice spin on a classic kids toy while still sticking close to their interest in typography.
And then there are Girard's own dolls, created for his home in Santa Fe. These licensed reproductions by Vitra are made out of pine and hand-painted and are available for $145 each.
Sorry, but even $79 for a pillow goes in the "I can't afford it" category.
