Roundup: Modern Natural Woven Seating Solutions

We recently received this reader request: "Dear ATLA, I've always been a huge fan of natural fiber and woven furniture. Rattan bistro chairs, seagrass...anything woven and with a natural texture. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't share my natural affinity for the more traditional woven and rattan furnishings, but said he'd be open to pieces that look more modern and less Gilligan's Island in appearance. Could you give us a few options to choose from that could sway us to a compromise? Thanks, Camille."

Camille, below we've gathered several high and low priced modern options that buck the traditional appearance of natural fiber woven seating that you and your husband may like (maybe even Mary Ann and Ginger too)...

You can find shedloads of knockoffs of the Wegner chair, FYI.

erinpearce: great addition...glad you added it to the list.

FiatLex: true, and there's a few on eBay and Craigslist if vintage and used are an option.

Oh, me too on the woven and natural fibre obsession. I have more rattan/wicker/bamboo/shoji-inspired items than you can shake a decorative stick at. In fact, I have more items than I can possibly fit inside my condo and have TWO of the IKEA Gunghult chairs for sale on Craigslist as we speak.

Those lacey looking chairs would go well with the lace-look chain link fence posted earlier -- a trend?

I think Kenneth Cobonpue is one of the best when it comes to working with rattan and natural fibers:

Budji Layug is also really good but less modern than cobonpue

Local furniture designers in The Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia etc. produce modern furniture using native materials. The two that I mentioned also have international show rooms.

Don't these get very dusty and dirty? Also - does anyone own any woven pieces and have a cat as well? I think my kitty would mistake the material as too close to sisal and think it's her post :)
