Perfect! I'm about to embark on a spring cleaning adventure and came onto Apartment Therapy for some inspiration to get me away from Battlestar reruns.
My best advice is to turn on lights. Forget your eco-friendly electricity saving self and see the mess in the brightest light possible. This also helps give me more energy.
I also recommend short breaks as a reward for successfully tackling each bit you plan on for the day. Tonight I plan to treat myself to pizza and once the kitchen is spotless, and gelato when my closet is presentably organized (closet is going to give me a lot of ice cream in the next few weeks!)

Oh... and spring cleaning the wardrobe, just go right to separating the loves and the will wear until threadbares into the keep pile, and everything else, if not worn for a month of the proper season can go to consignment. This relentless getting rid of stuff is necessary sometimes...

Wardrobe cleaning. I take EVERYTHING (clothes, only) out of the closet and put it on the bed. I sort the things I have worn in the past couple of weeks and put them back, after making sure they don't need cleaning or repair. If I wore them recently, I know they fit and work for me...
(I hang things by category -- sleeveless, short sleeved, long sleeved, vests, slacks... don't wear skirts or dresses...)
Then I start going through one category at a time. I try everything on. If it fits and if I still have things to wear with it, I hang it up. If it doesn't fit, if I no longer like it as much or no longer have something to wear with it, it goes to the Goodwill bag. I can't go to bed until it's all put away!
I usually suddenly get the inspiration to do this at some weird moment, and I always go with that impulse. If I schedule it, nothing happens.
