This week, the Spring Curees are considering ways to add in hardness or bring in softness to a room. A good way to add softness, especially in a modern room, with its angular lines and spare furnishings, is with a rug. Rugs can also unify a room or add a spot of color to a neutral space. In a loft or in an awkwardly shaped room, rugs can create “rooms within a room.” We found our rug at Overstock. With their large assortment, great prices, and inexpensive delivery fee, they’re a great resource. Four more, and links, after the jump...

Wow! Some of those are much cheaper than I was expecting!

LOVE the zebra rug. I believe West Elm makes a similar one for less money.

The biggest complaint about buying rugs from OS is that often the color descriptions and pictures are not accurate - some a little off and some way off. I bought two rugs from them, one is absolutely beautiful and exactly what I expected based on the website (5x8 $170) and the other one (3x5 $80) is not what I expected. The upside is the shipping is so cheap, you often get a discount (Google for coupon codes) and you receive the rug pretty quickly depending on where you are and where the warehouse it's shipping from is. I'm in Northern NJ, ordered the rug on Friday and received it on Monday.
I love OS - where else can you get furniture delivered for $1-3

I agree with Lenny about the colors. Best advice: read the reviews carefully. I bought one rug from them and the colors were SO different from the picture that I am wary of buying from them again. But I am glad to hear that others have had better experiences.

We actually have a really funny story about a rug from Overstock. When our son was a baby we would open the door to his room and it had this burnt match smell... and we thought... "awww. how sweet. he has this funny little smell." then we got worried and thought maybe a burnt match smell was a sign of some sort of disease. We even called the pediatrician. Turned out the rug smelled. I have heart that Overstock rugs mold and have this strange smell.

Actually I believe it's the backing on many rugs that deteriorate and start to smell - some rugs from Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel and other stores have the same problem â I think I remember reading about this issue on this site some time ago.

Many rugs have this smell from being stored rolled up and in plastic. If you leave them out, preferably with a bit of sun shining on them, the smell should dissapate very quickly.

As with anything you buy online, ask a lot of questions and check colours from various monitors. I had a long talk with a manager at Overstock when I bought my rug and he agreed that if I hated the color, they'd waive the restocking fee. Luckily, it was exactly as I was hoping it would be.
Cheers!
