All-Weather Rugs Made From Recycled Plastic

atla07recycledrugs.jpg

This morning while enjoying our morning tub routine and a new issue of Natural Home, we noticed an advertisement for these handcrafted polypropylene rugs made from recycled plastic bottles and woven together by Thai artisans for fair trade wages. We can't believe the intricate designs are made of plastic.

The price seems ridiculously low, available for $28 for a 4'L x 6'W size and $89 for a larger 6'L x 9'W version. This might be the perfect solution for my neighbor looking for a rug that's compatible with her two dog's propensity to urinate on any rug/carpet she lays down, especially with such a nice price.

Also they would be perfect for a patio or deck: they could just be hosed off. Too cool!

I purchased one of the "plastic bottle" rugs for the purpose of trying to discover HOW IT IS MADE so I can take the idea to the "very poor" people on the remote island I am moving to. HELP...........PLEASE! I have spent many, many hours trying to find information on the process, how they take plastic bottles and make the hollow little tubes that they weave with.

If ANYONE can assist me in this discovery, you will be part of sharing something that will change many lives.

It is a cool rug and reminds me of something similar I had back in the early 70's! Anyone else remember?
