Pappelina and Dalarna Indoor Outdoor Rugs by Magdalena York Collection

atla-062308-rug01.jpgA few weeks ago, when we were at the Dwell on Design home tours, we spotted a great flat weave runner in the kitchen of one of our favorite houses. It was also used in the hallway. Then, this weekend, we spotted a similar runner at The Kelly Green Design Store in Silverlake. Turns out that both runners were two different products made by the same company, Magdelena York Collection...

In this modern kitchen from the Dwell Home Tours, a Pappeline runner adds softness without looking fussy
Woven in Scandinavia from 50% recycled plastic strips, they withstand rain and mold, are hypoallergenic and easy to clean. Though light and flexible, they're surprisingly soft and springy and can be washed in the machine. The Pappelina comes in great bright designs, including florals and geometrics; the Dalarna in muted broad stripes. Consider them if you're looking for a versatile rug that can be used indoors or out. Oh, and they're also reversible with opposite colours on the front and the back!

What a wonderful way to add a touch of warmth to a modern kitchen. Many people are opting for laminate flooring these days and it can create a massive ocean of space that looks slightly odd, particularly with larger kitchens. This is a really simple solution, but are they non-slip?

These are great! I've had one of the runners in my kitchen for two years because we have a black slate floor that gets a little cold on the feet.

It's lovely, washable, durable, comfy, and pretty much non-slip because it's made of a rubber-y plastic (but looks modern and nicely made, not cheap). My two-year old and my four-year old love hopping along the circles and have been unable, despite their highly active running and riding various wheeled contraptions across it every day, to do any damage to it whatsoever.

Sounds like it might well be worth the investment. If kids can't slip on it then I'm sure the rest of us are probably fine!

Beeing Swedish I have several Pappelina carpets. They are the best! Don't worry about kids slipping they have some type of rubber on the sides so the carpet wont glide. They are very useful if you have kids or pets. Easy to vacuum and wipe. The quality is fantastic. They are ideal for hallways and kitchens. And I think 50% of the plastic is of PET, which is great.
