Yesterday we ventured west of the 405 (a real trek for us folks living over in the 323) to visit the FLOR Showroom, a one-stop decor idea playland for those of us who like to see, feel, and play around with ideas before purchasing. FLOR, for those who happen not to know about the ubiquitous modular flooring solution, are easy to install carpet tiles that come in a huge assortment of textures, designs and colours. Showroom manager Seza Ouzounian was kind enough to give us a detailed walk-thru of a somewhat hidden gem (busy street, construction) where all we wanted to do during our visit was touch every single one of the 300+ FLOR tiles displayed...

If you're easily overwhelmed by lots of choices, at first, the Santa Monica FLOR showroom might be too much. But after talking to Seza we immediately realized you're in very helpful hands as soon as you walk through their doors. What this showroom allows customers to do beyond seeing and feeling the FLOR tiles in person is to creatively layout combinations of tiles that might not have been considered without having all the options all right there in front of you. A huge inspiration board filled with magazine clippings and actual customers' before and afters fill the left side wall of the shop.
There are over 300+ FLOR tiles here in handy sizes to take and layout on a large center table. Seza mentioned that FLOR has a huge database of recommended colour combinations for those looking for design direction, but that some of the most fun designs are born out of just experimenting then and there with all the tiles. We couldn't agree more...having all those tiles in front of us was like being a kid in a candy store.
Alongside the huge selection of tiles were some new designs just released. Seza mentioned that in the near future, the showroom will begin offering "rugs of the month" available for direct purchase (the showroom has a sample stock of every tile, but does not offer direct sales yet; all purchases will be shipped directly to customers).
Large platform displays open up to reveal a treasure trove of samples.
A notable new offering are these line of FLOR pre-designed rugs with border cut tiles (we hope FLOR begins offering half-cut sizes in every one of their designs). This skull adorned design would have been our definite choice during our teen Iron Maiden/Metallica days.
Between the vast selection of FLOR tiles, the extremely friendly and helpful staff, and the opportunity to experiment and find inspiration, we believe you MUST drop by the FLOR showroom if you're in the 90401 zip code. We haven't had so much fun looking at flooring ever in our lives...no joke. And be sure to tell Seza that AT sent ya!
*We almost forgot to mention a big incentive! All purchases made at the showroom get a 10% discount from the price listed online or in the catalog.
We just went there two weeks ago and received our tiles a week later. Haven't placed them yet though, still working out the arrangement but, We love them. Thanks again Seza for all the help.

I am in Huntington Beach and didn't know they had a So. Cal. showroom, so I ordered a sample pack. I love the idea behind their products, but the sample I got were the medium to low end priced carpet tiles and they were SO plastic-e and rough. Maybe for an office, but I could never use them for a bedroom. Not cozy at all.

Are those animals-with-antlers appearing in the montage of pics (second pic down on the page) available on a FLOR tile? I have looked at FLOR's site, but cannot see the cute antlered animals or determine the name of the pattern. Thanks for any and all help!

I can't wait to go and get some for my new apartment.. I rented a townhouse in Prospect New Town in Colorado 2 years ago, and moved in during the winter. It only took me one day to realize that the small rug (covering the wood entry hall), that kept getting stuck under the door had to go. Off to DWR and a week later I had a few tiles and all was right with the world. Later I got a chance to look at my neighbors front hall floor and realized that not only was my choice more convenient than a rug, but that I had protected the floor and they hadn't. Flor is a brilliant product.

I noticed some of your readers inquired about the Holideer tile pattern and just wanted to let you know that Holideer will be available on FLOR.com next week.
