Vintage Belt Floor Mat by Ting Studios

062607belt_mat_LRG.jpg
Not Waisted (or Wasted!) More and more designers are looking for new ways to re-use discarded items, and the designers at UK based TING Studios have come up with this great looking floor mat. It's made of vintage leather belts on a backing of reconstituted leather with water based glue. We love how it almost looks like a wood floor! Each one is hand made and has a four week lead time.

We suppose this could also be a fun DIY project if someone feels extra crafty. Otherwise, its available at Branch for $648. (Via Bltd)

$648. For used belts.

Doesn't the $648 just make you think "thrift store!" and "large piece of felt as backing"? If the felt won't take the glue, some other form of upholstery-sized cheap fabric or vinyl should.

Given a good pair of upholstery sheers to cut the belts, and it's probably not even a difficult DIY.

Now, how it wears would be another question...

Yeah, I think I now know what I'm doing this weekend. Now I'm off to make a list of the thrift stores around my neighborhood...

The link under the Crepax cabinet takes you to the belt rug. Can someone fix it please?

I'd pay $648 for it.
