Is that vase just a vase ... or is it art? There are several designers and architects of late that have been creating pieces that seem to blur the lines of definition. If you're going to be in Houston (or already are- Texas represent!), there's an interesting exhibition going on called "Imperative Design"...

"'Imperative Design', a display of one-off designs by seven pioneering designers, is part of an initiative in Houston's art district to expand the notion that design and art can be appreciated with the same principles." The exhibition includes the work of Mark Holmes, Zaha Hadid, Arik Levy, Ross Lovegrove, Greg Lyn, David Mocarski, as well as some pieces from the curator, architect and industrial designer Lauren Rottet. It's at the Barbara Davis Gallery, and runs until March 1, 2008.
