We all love found furniture, probably because we can see the potential in every abandoned piece of 'junk'.
But Miles Coolidge has gone a step further and made those abandoned pieces the subject of his photographs. Known for his conceptual photography, this exhibit at Acme on Wilshire is no exception. The photographs speak about LA, our system of roads, our landscape and the nature of our 'street' culture. Also, they're pretty charming pictures of furniture left on the sidewalk facing their fate. The show closes on Saturday, check it out while it's still up.
This show is funny but highly intelligent. A great balance. The images are very effective in their clarity and composition. These images are what constitute "art." What one thinks they know turns out to be something else.

These photos are beautifully printed with rich saturated color. The shifts in overall sizes serve the images of the furniture well. The whole body of work has a strange surrealistic domestic feel. It's worth seeing.
