apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Ready for the weekend? Ready for the Rose Bowl?

The Rose Bowl Flea Market is a little bit like Mecca for Flea Market Enthusiasts. Just walking down every aisle could take 4 hours. Then add in the fact that you have to look at and touch everything and you've got a full blown adventure on your hands.

It only rolls around once a month and I seem to miss it every time. Just a reminder that it's THIS WEEKEND! So if you haven't been in a while, need to get out of the house, are looking for awesome furniture or vintage ephemera, want to be outside for some of Fall, this is it, this is your chance. Me, I'm hoping to find a mirror a little something like this this weekend:

And even if I don't the trip won't be wasted. Mid century, Hollywood Regency, Eighties, Garbage, Clothes, Posters, so many plates and dishes my head spins just thinking about it, the place is chock full of inspiration. So if you don't get around to it this weekend, there's always the second sunday in November.

Holy crap, I had no idea that this existed! Too bad I'll be busy painting this weekend, but I'm marking it in my calendar for next month!

The Long Beach Meet is much better. The Rose Bowl has allowed in too many tube sock and knock-off vendors and many of the really great dealers just don't go anymore. The Pasadena City College swap meet, while much smaller, seems to attract some great dealers with MCM stuff as well as the Shabby Chic crowd.

Hey Palmetto--
Thanks for the head's up-- are there fewer shoppers there too?

Oh man, I love the Rose Bowl Flea Market. If you've never been, you should at least go once, just to see it. It is one of my most favorite things in LA!

Skip the "swap meet" part that's around the edge of the bowl, it's mostly crap.

The antiques section is FUN! although I get overwhelmed by the vintage clothes booths (too much stuff!)

be advised:
bring sunscreen
bring water or other drinks (water & sodas are 4.00)
bring cash. they have ATMS but the ATM charges 5.00 to withdraw.

last month I went and I got
-awesome vintage table cloths & tea towels
-an old globe from the 60's
-plastic bird & dogwood (painted gold!) sculptural wall hangy things.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! such a fun adventure.

The Pasadena City College is free (both for parking and entry.) It's just as crowded as the Rose Bowl Swap Meet, BUT.... it's doggie friendly!

Dreaming of Swap Meets and Finds Galore. It's what I rather be doing for sure.
