052009_grounded01.jpgWhen we stay with our friends in Encinitas, we enjoy checking out the main street full of stores, boutiques and restaurants. When we spotted Grounded tucked away in a little pavilion, we popped in to check out the modern and stylish garden shop and meet the sweet owner, Juli Risner. Inside the store, we saw...

What a lovely store! I love the white planters, as well as those white lanterns. I just checked their website and discovered that the lanterns are solar powered- how awesome! No candles, no power cords...I'm in love.

Oh, this is funny. I lived in Encinitas from 1974 to around 1984. Back then, it was flower farms runs by Japanese Americans. (I recall taking Japanese language classes after school on the property of one of these farms.) The city was barely developed then. My father, who was civilian Navy, bought a brand new house for 25 grand. And most of the other fathers on our street were also civilian Navy.

Who would have thought there would ever be cool stores in Encinitas - I certainly didn't back then. I felt I was living in such a rural community.

I love living in San Diego and it makes me happy to see something local on this website. Although I'm curious if this store is at all affordable because I'd imagine rent for that store alone must cost a fortune.
