It's Wednesday, so it's time to check out the eye candy at 1st Dibs.com and see what we want but can’t have.
We know we want this Ico Parisi 60s Dining Table + Set of 6 Dining Chairs.
And could someone tell us what is wrong with this Brass Cocktail Table by Gio Ponti - other than the $4,300.00 price tag?
This Fantastic

So these entries on the LA site are all fine and good, but man...these prices are stratospheric...people living in apartments can't afford this kind of furniture (well, maybe some, but not all of your readers). Can you guys please try to come down from the clouds a bit and offer some cool design/tips, etc..., for those of us who have to shop in non-boutique shops? We're not all rich celebs and there's plenty that LA has to offer for sharp design in more normal price ranges. ;-)
hear hear! this only makes it harder to come home to my apt.
Adam/atl... You should go through the original AT archives for L.A. resources--in all price ranges. There are at least a dozen L.A.-specific threads in the archives, plus lots of threads addressing nationwide chains that have L.A. locations. I mean, come on. AT/LA has only been live for what, 2-3 weeks?
I, for one, love to see the higher-end pieces as a source of inspiration. The items pictured above are highly collectible. (I'm especially fond of the Gio Ponti table.) And, as I'm sure you're aware, there is a market for this type of furniture. (The N.Y. Times and Wall Street Journal have both run--in the past year--extensive articles which "handicap" the investment value of certain designer pieces based on going rates at auctions.
I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that it would be a shame to lose features like the spotlight on 1st Dibs items. They're kind of like the flipside of the AT classifieds and Craigs List postings that are run on this site just about every day.
No No Enrique, you misunderstand me....I like seeing the high end stuff too...but I would love to see stores/resources highlighted that we can also afford as well :-)
Adam. My bad. Sorry about that! See you at the launch event at OK tomorrow?
