Gouache bird painting: Matte Stephens, 31, is a Birmingham, Alabama-based artist who sells his decidedly retro, very reasonably priced work on eBay. His palette is a hit parade of Sixties hues: avocado green, robin's-egg blue, burnt sienna, and gold - see matteart.blogspot.com.

Hand-carved Senufo stool: We like this stool's rugged surface and full legs. Low African stools can hold teacups and books or serve as ottomans, particularly when topped with rich-textured pillows.
•
Josef Hoffmann chrome armchair: The seller has wisely reupholstered this piece in a durable, neutral fabric, which means that it will play nicely with mid-century and Art Deco pieces. With a soft throw, this piece would suit a bedroom.

Set of four ECM dining chairs: This is a classic, surprisingly comfortable design. The reserve is apparently set at $400, or $100 per chair - a fair price for a chair that retails for over $300.
That gouache bird art is very closely "inspired by" a vintage illustrator (still alive) whose work was featured on an episode of Todd Oldman's Handmade Modern (mini)series.
I haven't seen the show, but I did a little investigating, and you must be referring to Charley Harper.
His work is here:

Indeed, there are striking similarities.
Thanks for pointing this out, Patrick.
Really the bird was inspired by a 1973 golden press book of birds by Clara Hussong which was used more as refernce.I wish i could paint as well as Charley Harper.
I've been following Matte Stephens' career for several years -- even if he is inspired by something old,he has always seemed to me to have integrity when it comes to creating artwork.I really like his work!
