Sea Life Lumbar Pillow Cover

042208sealife1.jpgOne of our favorite sites, Shelterrific, has this series of posts titled "Strangely Appealing:...". Likewise, we find this Sea Life Lumbar Pillow Cover from Pottery Barn "strangely appealing" (jellyfish are cool...) It looks like a page out of the book, Cabinet of Natural Curiosities, which has been a big trend this Spring...

042208sealife2.jpgThe cover is $39, and is 14" x36". The inserts run about $24. What do you guys think about the whole "Cabinet of Natural Curiosities" trend?

Personally, I love it, and will probably love it more when it's no longer a trend.

I didn't realize it was a trend. I just bought a copy in Barnes and Noble for ten bucks, planning on framing some of the prints. I thought I was being a bit creative, but now I kind of feel like a tool! I'll still frame the prints, though. And I love that pillow.

Planning on framing some of the pages is what I meant.

This isn't just from the Albertus Seda book- there's a whole 17th century tradition of wunderkammer and kunstkammer- cabinets of curiosities from around the world and around history. There were books, yes, but also real cabinets and whole rooms devoted to displaying such objects. So I wonder (no pun intended) whether the next step would be to buy a glass cabinet and create our own cabinets of curiosities?

Did you see the bathroom at Steven Gambrel's house in Elle Decor? It was wallpapered with pages cut from that book.
