Sally Stool

10_06stools.jpgWe saw these Sally stools in the new Chiasso Catalog that came in the mail the other day and had a serious flash of recognition to a designer piece that DWR used to carry [can't find them on the site anymore]. Some pangs of guilt went through our minds about buying a knock off but then we saw the unbelievable price of $48 and left the guilt behind. Also available in orange to perk up any space. So dear readers...Do you have guilt buying a knock off? or do you buy regardless?

I've had the Phillipe Starck originals on my dream list for a while ... would quickly buy a knock-off, but the appeal of the original was that the "top" lifted off and provided hidden storage.

They are called the Prince Aha Stool they are still available on DWR. But I got some at 50% off (about the same as the knock off from Chiasso)a few weeks ago during the Kartell warehouse sale. But the Chiasso stools look really good!

Are you serious, GUILT for saving money?

I think knock-offs are great, but I would be wary of buying these without seeing them in person - the Chiasso site doesn't provide any info about materials! Prince Ahas are still available from DWR for $87 (www.dwr.com/search.cfm?Ntx=mode+matchpartialmax&Ntk=all&N=0&Ntt=aha). We've had ours outside for a couple of years now and they haven't changed color at all. Also, we take the top off during parties and use it as an ice bucket and a flower holder... Don't know if you can do that with the Sally!

I have a white Prince Aha stool I bought from DWR many years ago when they were in the $50 range. I want 3 more, but can't bring myself to pay the new pricetag from DWR. I would like to try the Sally Stool in white. Anyone know if the whites are the same (ie: wax white)?

Not familiar with the DWR ones (inspired by? knock-off?), but saw these at Rockridge Home and fell in love w/them. ABS plastic and yes the lid comes off. Have been using them as extra seating and baby has co-opted them for use as a walker. Have not put them outside so can't comment on the fade resistance. And after spending 1800 on a coffee table am more than happy to spend 50 on cool looking stool.....
