apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Monarchy Rocking Stool

Do you know what I've always wanted since childhood, but never have quite found myself enjoying in the comforts of my own home? A rocking chair. Not sure where the love of rocking chairs came from, since none of my childhood neighbors owned one, nor were rocking chairs the least bit common in a middle class Korean-American household (my girlfriend mentioned she grew up with 3 rocking chairs, inflaming chair envy). But show me a rocking chair and I'll show you someone who can find the simple pleasure of lazying away doing a whole lotta nothing...

The Monarchy Stool designed by Yiannis Ghikas looks like a lot of fun for adults and kids alike, with a simple low stool design which offers multidirectional rocking options. Would love to see the Monarchy rocking stool go from prototype to available (and affordable) product, since its small form factor would make it a good option for a small apartment dweller and rocking chair lover such as myself. I imagine this stool might be a fun temporary seating solution for those of us who like to play racing video games...if not just for the fun of watching people wobble around as they play.

I love rocking chairs too. I think it may be because I'm fidgety and rocking (or swiveling slightly in swivel chairs) helps me concentrate sometimes.

I'm not sure about the stool, however. I imagine over-enthusiastic rocking would lead to tipping over. And it doesn't seem useful as something other than seating (whereas a standard stool can be used as a table, footrest, seat, or boost to reach things that are high-up).

I'm with slowdown (on the fidgety front, too!). I'd almost certainly tip over on this because I wasn't paying enough attention.

I have a rocking stool that belonged to my parents. I don't know if it's a Noguchi, but it sure looks like it.

My mom said she always loved to see the "drunks" on it. :)

Someone with free time should hack an Ikea Frosta stool into this and post it here.
